Hello. I am a new owner of a 2003 rx1 and I really like it. Like most things though, I would like to improve it in the off season so I was wondering what is good mods for improved handling and/or weight savings.
thanks

does anyone have experience with the pioneer performance 45" wide front suspension kit? I am interested in that to help with ski lift. Also maybe changing out the proaction for the mono suspension. The power is great, I just want to improve the ride.

I have 2 RX1's ()3 & 05), an Apex, and a Phazer. The 2 RX1's have the following mods: The 03 has A Bender Monoshock rear suspension, both have MPI wide front ends, 13mm bars, Apex seats, Ski Doo Pilot Skis, raised speedometers, handlebars articulated forward, and hand guards for wind protection. These handle great! like on rails. The old ProCraption was the reason I sold my first 03 and defected to a Rev for one season. The Bender Mono with the Penski shock is Great, better than stock Mono. In some respects I like these better than my Apex GT...easier to work on for sure. The only complaint I have is the wide MPI was engineered for weight reduction and isn't tough enough. The big thing you have to watch for are bent bolts where the lower A-arm attaches to the ski knuckle. When this happens, you need to repair before it creates more damage. It seems to happen just from hard riding. I have my daughters on these and took a look at them last weekend to find them both with bent bolts. I found grade 8 hardware at McMaster-Carr and am going to try that. The kit comes with Grade 5.
BTW... I ran the RX1's mself prior to handing them off to my girls. Although the weight is there, I could ride as hard as anybody on these in the twisties. And well..you know how they are on the lakes and fields
thanks for the info, I think I will be doing a lot of the mods you mentioned on yours. I have never heard of raising the gauges. How is that done?

The best mods that I have done on my 03 is the apex seat mod, 2" handle bar rised, a 13mm sway bar, ZX2 suspension and sled dogs airbox mod. Now that I think about it.....thats all the mods I have done to it. The must mods are the apex seat, handlebar riser and sway bar. These greatly improve the comfort and handling.

x2 on the wide front end kit, although the handling was improved, the bolts give out due to the design, I lost my right side a-arms where the stock would have held up.

Consider more cooling for it. I added the apex radiator and fan due to overheating problems. I rode 300 miles today in 45 degrees with no problems. An extra wheel kit and temp gauge is nice too. Definately do the seat and pivot riser.
Ya I forgot about the cooling...have added tunnel exchangers to both of mine.
I raised the guages becuse handlebars raised and articulated forward make the guages not visible. I used a sheet of plastic and just mounted the pod higher onthe piece and fastened the plastic to the existing dash plastic. You cant tell it isn't stock unless you look real close.

Is there a post for adding tunnel exchangers? This sounds like a good idea.

Would love to see a pic of the speedo I need to do this to mine this year. I have also kicked around moving the speedo to the handlebars.

I have 2 RX1's an 03 and an 05 and really never saw the need for widening the front end on them. I just use SLP SLT ski's and call it good. CThe 05 is a little tippy at times but I have not had any handling issues with the 03 whatsoever. The 03 was set up by Woody's performance here in Maine so maybe thats why it handles as well as it does.. *shrugs*
