Caution any one with an RX1 should check they're W arm in the rear skid and the center shock mount. While taking my rear skid out today to replace the Hyfax. I noticed that all the welds on the W arm were cracked and the front skid shock mount was bent along with the spring keeper at the top of the shock were it mounts to the skid. I'm not trying to scare anyone it's just something you might want to check. I just replaced all of the skid bushings last fall and they are all bad as well. What gives? Yeah I know! Like my buddy says;
Man your hard on equipment!

And I thought I rode hard :!: Haven't broke that part (yet). Hope I can keep pace with you on the TY ride

It is a known problem when the pro-action is ridden hard. Maxximum perf. and others I'm sure have reinforced w-arms beacuse of this problem.

Yuppers
Yuppers I know about the Maxx W arms. I'm having mine done that way by a local machinist.

Bent my w arm on the first ride last year, hit a rock! Put in Maxx Perf's and have put 1800 miles on it and its still fine. Have did alot of hard pounding also. Used to go through one a year on the srx's in the past.

My dealer welded a supporting piece of steel along the side of the W arm for all his sleds that start to show any signs of cracking. It's a common problem. He explained to me that Yamaha knows about it but they determine what needs fixing based on the replacment parts they sell. So if you replace a part (let's say a bearing) along with a 1000 other people all around the same mileage, they investigate WHY the parts needed replacing and address it accordingly. The problem with the W arm is if you wait till it breaks to replace it, it costs big $$$ so most guys pre-empt it and weld some kind of support on it. So Yamaha never really see's it's as a big deal.
I also have a really GOOD and KNOWLEDGABLE dealer...

Do you really thing Yamaha Cares? Personally I don't think so. I think it's pretty sad that you basically have to replace all kinds of parts after riding a sled for one year. And Yamaha won't do a thing about it. Yeah I know Blah Blah Blah Blah!!! We complain but we keep riding Yamaha's! Moral or the story; No buddy has made the perfect sled yet! So until they do we'll keep riding and wrenching!

Yup. I have to admit I ride pretty hard, and this sled is FAR more reliable than my old Cat, but I have quite a list for a 1 year old sled. I'll see if I can remember everything:
Shreded track from the fingers breaking off.
Brake light didn't come on until the track was past locking up. (should be fixed tomorrow).
Exhaust heat shield cracked.
Broken relay rods in the rear suspension.
All of my rear suspension bushings are worn.
Broken reverse lever (plastic cracked off on a cold day).
Oil usage (1 qt. every 400 miles of trail riding)
Speedometer frosting up on the inside
Backs of my skis are bent upward (close to a 45 degree bend) NOT from an accident
Seat cover ripped in several places (NOT from accident/misuse)
Foam cracked and ripped, full of water.
Rear bumper/grab handle very loose
Chain adjusting bolt threads tight...can't move the bolt by hand for adjustment (been this way since new)
Tabs on the side covers broken. The ones that push into the rubber retainers. Each broke the first time I tried to push them back into the rubber...they just crushed instead of pushing into the rubber.
I'm sure there more I'm not thinking of right now. So far the only thing covered under warranty was the seat cover and foam, brake light switch, and the reverse lever...but I had to install that myself, since the warranty expired while the lever was sitting at the dealer, and they didn't cll me to tall me it was in...I had to call THEM looking for it.

- 2021 polaris assault 850,18 sidewinder ltx,14 nitro xtx,06 apex rtx,
ive seen several 03's at the dealer with cracks in the main bulkhead right behind the engine,on the clutch side, look between the back clutch and the frame rail down to the bulkhead (about 8-9 inches from top edge of clutch) and probably 3 inches from the back edge of the back clutch in the corner of the frame, mine has a 1 inch crack right now but i dont think it has gotten worse over time, yamaha didnt believe the dealer so they made them send the bulkhead and all the drilled out rivets to them to see,if you look close you will see it cause the dirt sticks to the crack ,mine was iffy so i just zapped it with a shot of carb cleaner and bam there it was, hate to be the bearer of more bad news but everyone should know

I ALSO NOTICED CRACKS AROUND THE WELD ON MY W ARM DURING INSPECTION BEFORE A TRIP..MY QUESTION IS I WELDED A SUPPORT PIECE AROUND THE CRACK AND RODE IT ALL WEEKEND WITH NO PROBLEMS BUT, WE ARE GOING ON A 1000 MILE TRIP AROUND MAINE AND CANADA AND I AM WORRIED ABOUT IT LASTING. WILL IT BE OK WITH JUST A LITTLE REINFORCEMENT OR SHOULD I REPLACE IT BEFORE IT COMES APART COMPLETLY? I HAVE BROKEN THIS PART BEFORE IN MY SRX AND IT COST $168.00 BUCKS FOR A NEW ONE.REALY DIDN'T WANT TO HAVE TO PUT MONEY INTO THE SLED THIS YEAR SEEING I WILL PROBALY ORDER A NEW ONE IN MARCH..
