Re: RX1 What track drivers should a guy use? Clip drive only or track lug and clip drive?
Anyone know the driver shaft size? Also what is the drive chain top gear size? 15 wide x 15 spline x 1"?
I believe I read on here to take a 1/4" off the tips of the clip drivers? :?:

Hey Redrider

Hey Redrider..I would use the double drivers involute/extrovert personally. I have them on my 03 RX-1 and they work awesome..Wahl Bros. makes them and they are already milled down..I bought my drivers from www.mountainperformance.com But I had to have them turned down on a lathe. I had them take 3/8 off the tips..But they say all you have to take off is 3/16 off the tips. I'm sure there is someone who can hook you up with Wahl Bros. drivers here. Yes shaft diameter is 1"
Stock drivers are 9 tooth involute..But I was wondering if you used the 8 tooth drivers instead if you'd have to have anything milled off the tips?..You should find your answers here with all the knowledge from the guys on TY site..Good Luck I hope I helped some.

Gear

The gear is a 16 spline 1".

Thanks for the help I'm going to look up Walh Bros. and order up some drivers for a 1" hex shaft. :)
Going from 9 tooth driver to a 8 tooth driver would that gear you up or down? :?

Drivers

Going smaller to 8" would be gearing down. Why do you want to do that? If you want to change the gearing do it in the chain case. When you order the drivers from Wahl , you need to tell them that you ordering for an RX-1 and that you want them to machine them for you. If you don't, you may not get machined drivers. I told them to machine mine for a M-10 suspension in case I switch to one. The M-10 has a thicker suspension shaft and needs a little more clearance. Keep the 9" drivers unless you live in the mountains and ride there.

Drivers

I believe the Mtn guys said they cut theirs also. So I would say yes.

We don't have to cut ours down for clearance. We have to run 8 tooth because of the 2" track. I personally set mine up in my lathe and turned mine true after I pressed them on. I had to take about .090 off of the OD to get them to run true. I would suggest this to anyone who has the means to do it. They run out quite a bit and will cause vibration.

if you run extroverts, the track runs WAAAAy more free, which equals more horse power to the track, higher efficiency, and the possibility of actually moving it by hand. Once you go verts, you will tell everyone you know about them.

I am extending my 121" to a 136" In doing so I believe I should gear down. Does any one know what the chain case gear sizes are on a Warrior. Thinking that I need to gear down should I do it in the chain case or with the drivers? Going from 9t to 8t how significant of a change is it? I run 1.375" studs on a 1.25 lug track any addisional clearance is welcome.

It may move more free by hand, but when it balloons at speed theirs too much aerodynamic drag. I think it's better for short blasts but will hurt top end. Don't say this doesn't hurt, if it didn't, why do guys put windage plates on their secondary? Look how much less air is disturbed from the secondary compared to a balooned track

You really don't need the additional room by the drivers just on the top of the tunnel.

By going to the 8t. drivers you are giving up efficiency, the track has to turn too tight to get around them.

I ran 144 1.325 studs in my 9833 last year no probs. with the stock 9t. drivers

This year I am running 9t. extroverts with a 136" Ohlins M10

Going to an 8t. driver is like gearing up, (more speed) not gearing down.

You should not try to gear using the drivers anyway, use the chain case.

8t. drivers are intended for tall paddles, thats all. If there were room I would be using 10t. drivers 8)
