My sled is having this issue of a poor idle {slight skip and random backfire out of one carb}although runs fine with slight choke ,nice and smooth, noticed it has slight fuel spraying out of carb, excessive fuel, other 3 seem fine. She smooth out and runs fine after 1/8 throttle up to full.I have cleaned carbs twice and no sediment was found and jets were rodded as well. One carb is having the issue.Any information would be appreciated .

My gut tells me the piolt in that carb is pluged. If its still running rugh at idle and exess fuel is comin out thats my guess they can be tricky sometimes I think everyone here can say they have cleaned and had to reclean once I know I have. Hope this helps good luck!

Thanks for your reply,I must mention I did a thorough cleaning although I may have missed something, there are a few pilots ,one I have learned is a air pilot ,to be specific which one feeds the idle circuit only?,I believe that is where to start as it is a idle only issue and there is fuel spraying{ bit to much on this one carb only}Seems the fuel is spraying up through needle more than the others. Is there any other issues that can cause this, maybe a seal or something else ???

There is one poit jet per carb going off memory its short stubby and looks like a cannon barrel. I would lean twards it being your problem like I said I do my own carbs and sometimes I have had to go back in there my self.

Going to make another attempt this week to clean and examine carbs with a fine tooth comb ,although this time I will muriatic acid all the jets to ensure cleanliness as well as thorough inspection for other causes as well as seals, hopefully this will help cure my issue.I will keep you posted what the results are and again Thank You for your input.

Some people have gotten the power jets mixed up with the main jets the power jet is much bigger than the main jet. Also at the bottom of the carbs you will see a air fuel mixture screw set all of these two turns out of a light seat. Make sure your carbs boots and clamps are on correct as well.

I avoid any mix up of jets as I do one at a time in sequence to avoid that issue during cleaning. As for the afm screw that I set at 2 turns out after my first cleaning, and clamps are all secure as I have tested with a vacuum guage as well as spraying around boots to check for leaks and have none ,so therefore one more attempt to clean carbs after that if problem occurs, I will save the hair on my head and out comes the stick of dynomite and we will have a awesome fireworks display to enjoy that evening

I hear your frustration as they are a finnicky set up but once running right they are awesome. If you can get a bottle of mechanic in a bottle try that it is supposed to work for the cheap gas we have nowadays.

Way too many times after cleaning the carbs, they will need cleaned again. It has nothing to do with your skills in the process. Very common. As I have always said, if it runs poorly, or if the seat has a rip, or if the headlight does not work, clean the carbs. I know it does not make sense, but it works.

I would also check the spark plug and coil, the backfire you mentioned is this reason.

Well the results are in after third ,thorough and hopefully last cleaning .I did as all have recomended and the sled seems to be running better, still has slight roughness ,nothing I am worrying about,so I will leave it be,{Muriatic acid works wonders on cleaning}.Next I will replace spark plugs and possibly synchronize the carbs. Thanks all for the responses as this is the best for information. Any recomendation as for the clutching to upgrade it such as springs, not looking for something drastic but better than stock ??? Any ideas anyone???

i would still check the coils, start the sled in the dark and watch the coils for arcing. Very common problem that most overlook.

Are you sure about this ? Power jets are bigger then main jets ? main jets are at the end of the nozzle which is a 137.5 and the power jet is a 75.

You are correct I got it backwards but what I was getting at was not to mix them up in the first place. Good catch though.
