hi guys,

I've done a search for Venture saddlebags and the only posts I find are 6 years old and recommend Yamaha bags. I'm wondering:
*what are you using for saddlebags on your Ventures?
*How do they mount them? over the seat or behind the seat?
*Is the Yamaha rack necessary?
Can I still carry a passenger with the bags mounted (if they mount over the seat)?

For trips alone, I can use the trunk bag that I use on my SRX and strap it to the seat, but that won't always work.

thanks in advance for your responses.

I've used the yamaha saddle bags on my 05 venture rs. part#sma-8et73-00-00,they work great and easily removable. only thing is i replaced the turn buckle style latch to tunnel to a male and female type. you can get at c.t.c. otherwise it could come loose and you'll drag the bag for a while if you don't notice. thats what happened to me. by the way 0 kms so far this season that really sucks :4STroke: :4STroke:

We have a 2010 RS Venture and I bought the bags from Yamaha. They fit very well and sit right under the passenger hand holds. I don't know about the buckles coming undone yet, as we still have no snow. My wife says she has trouble getting her hands out of the grips sometimes though. going north next weekend to a rally so I will have more feedback then.

I run the yamaha semi rigids on my venture... nice set up, tight and lots of room.

I installed the Yamaha bags yesterday. I'm concerned with the 6 lbs limit per bag, especially given that the bags are roomy. Unless I'm packing foam or feathers, I'll reach the limit before filling the bag. I'll probably use a bungee cord over the bags as an extra precaution as it's not usually the weight so much as the weight moving around that's the problem. The Coldwave bags I use(d) on my SRX almost always had a gallons of gas and some oil on each side in addition to whatever else I couldn't fit in my trunk bag, and they held up fine. But perhaps their stated weight limit was low too :-)

At the back top corner of the bag, there's a strap with a plastic clip that clips into the storage compartment. That's a good idea but it doesn't allow the cover to close properly. It gets pried out.

I still have to see if I can use the passenger gauntlets with the bags in place, since both mount on the handles.

We'll be riding 1200 kms starting Thursday so I'll report back on how these worked for me.

used the saddlebags on the weekend and they worked great. Their mounting to the passenger handles didn't affect the passenger handles or muffs. I didn't weight the contents but it was over 6 lbs each without any problems. They don't bounce at all (or very little I guess) so I expect that they'll last. The only thing was that the strap that hooks them to the back of the running board gets iced up, but all bags I've seen so far do that. Minor really. Will post pictures when I get the chance since I couldn't find any on here when I was looking.
