I was thinking of doing a setback with my 151 ZX-2 skid on my 03 mnt. Thinking of going to a 159 (staying with a 2.52 pitch) or a 162 and changing the drivers to 3.0 pitch.
Could I do this safely without adding extensions to the skid?

If I went with a 16" wide track is it just the front bolts that need to be taken down?

I sent this question to AD Boivin but no response.

Thanks

I would add rail extensions, rather than move the suspension back. We've moved it back as little as 1 1/2 inches and it hurts the handling. Rail extensions work fine. We used holz extensions to take a 151 to a 159 and they where not long enough. We slid the skid back to take up the difference and it hurt the balance of the sled noticably. We had to get the next longer extensions to be able to use the stock position. I don'r have any experience with the 16in wide track, but allot of these guys do. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, but I have the longest version of the zx2 available. AD Boivin states the 151 skid canbe used on a 162 track but I wasn'r sure about the balance of the sled. Thanks for the response I may look at a different skid and track all together. maybe an Apex takeout.

I bought a 05 RX-1 mountain with a blown motor. Had a turbo on it, lasted 855 miles sadly to say.
Anyway, It has the factory mountain skid with an extension on the back. Looks good. I think it is a 163 or something close to that. The track is in excellent condition....less than 855 miles....and the extension are the same. I would be interested in selling them. The track has all the holes punched and clipped and they used an anti-racket sprocket with it. I have no use for this setup. Call and make me an offer. (920)235-1020.

For the 16" wide track you'll have to remove a couple of the nut plates on that hold the bolts for the chain case. I ended up using stove bolts (with a round flat head and a square shank under the head) for the job and installed them from the inside out. I just filed the holes in the tunnel (behind the chain case) square to accept the square shanks and that held the bolt heads in place.

If you go to a Camo Extreme you'll need to trim the very outside edges of the track off (I cut 45 degree angles on the outside edges) for clearance. Also, if you use a 2 1/2" track you'll have to trim off the few fins on your front heat exchanger. Yes, uit fits that close.

Good luck

PS: I have a 141" M7 skid under mine stretched to a 162". I'm using the stock front suspension hole and it works great.

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking for a 159 track likely stay with the 15" so I don't have to mess with the chain case bolts. Trying to find a polaris IV 159 takeoff. I got the universal mounting instructions from a guy on Snowest for the ZX-2. Once I find a 159 track I'll do the set-back. I can always go back to the 151 mounting point if the balance of the sled is way off.

Last year I extended my 04 Warrior to 159. I extended the rails to 151 and set back the skid by 4 inches to be able to use the 159 track.

The only downside that I have with this setup is that the ski pressure is harder and steering takes a little more effort. But by adjusting the skid I should be able to lighten the pressure on the skis some.

You get a lot better approach angle on the track by setting back the skid wich prevents trenching and keep the sled on top of the snow. Climbing also improves a lot due to the more shallow approach angle.

I havent regret extending my sled. Good luck with yours

Talk to Dave @ Powderlites - I am pretty sure he had a ZX2 skid set up with a 159 track in his R&D sled for the Nytro turbo kit.

I put a 159 finger track on my turbo by moving the skid back 1.5 inches and making 2.5 inch extensions for it. The approach angle is a lot better and with the turbo making great track speed the finger track works even in the powder, Ken.
