I'm trying to determine the posibility of it. I have one from a totalled parts sled, so the material cost is pretty much zero. I don't know how involved it would be to bolt up, however.
FYI- this would be going onto an 06 Apex standard. I've tried searching with no luck.
Thanks,
Paul

I never liked the sc4 in any of the doos i owned, even 1000.00 worth of shock/spring upgrades yielded bad results, i sold the doos. The sc5 is better, but needs alot of upgrades imo too. Skidoo builds thier suspensions for 150-175lb riders, and for thier sleds that weigh 200lbs less then the apex, to me you shouldnt do it.
Most do artic cat, polaris skids in the apex, but honestly i have no experience with those. Skidoo i do and i say dont, lol!

really? Wow, I rode an 07 gade X with the SC4 and loved it. I thought it was far superior to anything I've ridden before, but then again, I came off of an 07 nytro with that POS CK skid. Man, did I hate that suspension with every fiber of my being. I'm just worried that the monoshock is not going to be my cup of tea, and I have a spare skid lying around, so I figured 'why not ask'...

I would give the mono a shot first, I had an 07 RTX with the CK and I HATED it too! When I got my LTX GT with the mono I was amazed at how much I loved it!
You could probably sell the Doo Skid and buy something else for your Apex?

My 06 had a beat mono in it when I bought and it rode 10 times better then both my doos ever did even with the thousands in upgrades I had done to them. So I think u'll have to ride it to see if preferences but the doo skid is step down imo.

Talk to Rock regarding the Doo skid under his machine. He must have a TON of miles on that conversion by now. When comparing SC-4 to SC-5, SC-5 has no forward coupling. I think the jury's still out on that one. Conventional sleds need/use it. The question is do the "rider forward" sleds need it? The next question might be is the Apex a true "rider forward"?
Regarding involvement, that's pretty much up to you, your skill set, and what you have to work with regarding a place to work on it. Many do them in a day or a weekend start to finish, others turn them into quite a project (maybe over thinking things just a bit ;^))
If you're serious about getting further into this, go down the TECH SECTION and do some searching in the 2 suspension sections there. You should be able to find a couple of Doo conversions there. Holler at me if you can't. I'll see what I can dig up. -Al

I tried SC-5, Monoshock GT and Polaris M10...
once dialed in...the SC-5 is better at eating up bumps..
and has a wider range of adjustabilité in my opinion..
but a well tuned GT and M-10 are close seconds... probably the GT in front..
Monoshock not GT is last...
in that groupe of 4..
and the worst i ever got was Dragon switchback 700.... 2008 with ryde FX shocks...
that thing was catastrophic...

Was there an equal attempt at getting all of these skids "dialed in" like the SC-5? Was the Switchback a 136" or 144"? Were the other skids long tracks as well?
Please don't take offense, it's not intended. Just looking for additional insight regarding your experience with all these conversions. Your sled's tunnel must look like swiss cheese?

Making an Ohlins Mono eat bumps is not difficult. It requires Ohlins PDS, and reinforced arms.
This shock has been refined since this post last December.

Anyway, a free SC4 136 compared to a stock KYB Mono is the question here. I have no direct experience with either. My guess is the SC4 would probably work better in the big stuff.

I love my monoshock suspension..
Had pioneer rebuild the shock with upgraded seals and revalve it and a new 5.5 spring and absolutely love it..
DOnt kno why you would want anything else..

Thanks a lot for the help guys. Like I said, I figured the question was worth asking (and it certainly was). I think at this point I'm going to leave the mono in for now and see how it goes. I like to think I am pretty mechanically inclined, so if I can't get the mono to work to my liking through conventional methods, I'll take a weekend off and throw the SC-4 in it.
I would say 90% of my worries are based on my last nytro (06). That thing was so bad for me that it actually made me question my skills as a rider. It took a lot of convincing and an overall love for the apex motor to finally say F&^* it, buy one, and worry about getting it handling adequately (and predictably) once I get it.
Edit- The nytro RIP'd one full season later after it buckboarded me off of a roller and ghost rode itself into a tree... I stepped onto a rev and immediately realized that it was the sled and not me... Again, I cannot stress enough how much I disliked that sled's 'handling' characteristics. I'm just looking to avoid that at all costs if that is what's in store for me w/ the mono skid.
