Okay guys, not sure if I have a problem here so maybe you can help me out...

I recently purchased a 2006 Attak and am currently going through the pre-season prep. My dad noticed that there was free-play on the secondary sheave (I know, there is supposed to be a little but he said it looked funny) so we decided to take it off. Upon disassembly we noticed that there was only one washer and one shim on the outside of the clutch and only one shim on the inside (closest to the engine). In the manual it says that there should be two shims on either side of the clutch. However, it says that there are different size shims: 0.5 mm and 1.0 mm. I'm thinking that the shims are just the 1.0mm ones but my father seems to think that something might be wrong.

Can you guys help with this? How many shims are there supposed to be on each side of the secondary clutch? I added picture so you understand what I'm talking about. Thanks in advance!

you need to have the tool to check off set. parts book just show what you could need when it comes to the off set. shims are use to set off set.

When I had all my stuff apart mine was the same as yours two on the front and one on the back...

YamahaMainer, use a caliper measure, measure from the inside of the primary clutch to the inside of the secondary clutch, spec is 15mm +/- 1.5mm.
Shim on the inside of the secondary until you are at 15mm or close, then add shims on the outside until you get 2-3mm free play when you push/pull the secondary clutch on the shaft. To check for parallellism you will need a perfect straight edge that will fit inside primary and go all the way back to the rear end of the secondary, then measure the distance between the straight edge and the secondary clutch both on the front end and the rear end of the clutch, if the measurements are the same your primary is in parallell with the secondary clutch. If the gap is larger on the rear you will have to move the engine to the right..

My '07 Attak is like in the first picture (from Yamaha). Two on the back side and two on the front, along with the bolt washer.

just go to a dealer and ask if you can use the offset tool and check it. second it is a madder of opinion but you do not need to have clutch have free play because these motor do not move under power like the older motors do . when i was racing and still today on all my buddies sleds an mine i look down the clutch from moving just make sure that the offset is sepc of 15mm.

Thanks guys! I'm sure my dad has an off-set measurement tool (or at least something like it) down in his "warehouse" of tools in the basement lol so I'll check it out once I get back to the sled. First it's breakfast, then Attak Time! Thanks again for all your help. I'll let you know what we come up with.

Well it looks like everything was alright afterall...The freeplay was fine so we didn't actually need the multiple shims! Thanks everyone!
