i have 3700 miles on my 09 xtx, and would like some input on shocks.... does a guy have to replace the shocks on these sleds after so many miles or can you get a kit put in or do they just wear out??? Mine seem to be fine and in good working condition... I did have a new one put on front left, after a guy was ahead of me and hit his kill switch (by accident) and i rear-ended him and hit my shck on his bumper so had to replace that one... but the rest seem fine. Does it depend on what your riding on and where and your riding style?? Thanks, just not up on the whole shock thing...

take a look at pioneer's, hygear's and other sites that rebuild shocks, its a good idea to have them refreshed or rebuilt once a year or every other year depending on the way you ride

the companys he mentioned are great shock rebuilders.
However i greatly disagree with rebuilding shocks every year.
I say rebuild em when they need it or start to leak.

Shock life comes down to how you ride.
If your a menace, top speed everywhere regardless of trail conditions, 200+miles a day type of guy...you might be able to smoke a shock in 3000 miles.
If you ride normal in a pack of guys, and your speed depends on trail conditions, and you cover less then 200 miles a day you may never blow your shocks.
also storage makes a difference. sled live indoors? add on shock life.
leave it outside? under a tarp all summer?
shock shafts rust and severely shorten shock life.
If your happy with how it rides, id leave it. if your unhappy send them out for a rebuild and custom valving for your application.

If you don't take care of your shocks by rebuilding them once in a while you can end up destroying them. The high performance rebuildable shocks are not maintenance free like the old, hydraulic, black painted steel shocks. Those shocks were disposable but generally only cost around $50 or less to replace them.
