Should I Evolve to a Nytro MTX?

I’ve gotten some great advice on this site so I’m relying on you guys to direct me accordingly.

I’m currently riding a ’06 Apex Mountain with a stock motor and a full Timbersled Skid. Ice Age rails, billet wheels etc. The front end has the sway bar removed with Sly Dog Powder Hound and Stud Boy parts and pieces installed.

I likey how it woks for me. The adjustments in the front end make it feel like a new sled. But something in the back of my gray matter is telling me that I should have a Nytro MTX.

I’m sure there is plenty of dedicated Yamaha mountain riders that made the conversion. Was it worth it?

Should I save the dough and buy used or is it worth ponying up for one off the showroom floor?

My vote goes to a nice used unit or a couple year carry over. Save the coin on the current year model. I had an 07 Turbo Apex MTX and got a Nytro MTX at the beginning of last season. Definitely not looking back! I thought it was going to need boost to make me happy, but its so much easier to ride that I still don't have it yet. I will say that if you get an 08/09, you definitely be upgrading the rear skid and maybe the front end too. On the 10/11, these arent required imo. But both for sure NEED a track change. Camo Extreme, Powerclaw, or something other than the Maverick.

I would buy a used 08 or 09 and buy a timbersled and some boards . Mod the tunnel yourself , in canada you would be saving 10 k between an 2011 and a used 2008 , you can buy a used turbo sled for less than new

yeah for right price, I might sell mine...it has a few things done to it...and a fancy aftermarket airbox too

If interested, will give you a list of goodies (new ones are the new timber spindles) clearly not shown as they are being installed...

it is hard to beat that apex motor. Every time i get on my buddys apex i just wish my nytro had that motor!!!

The nytro is alot better handling sled though. i think both in the na form you will miss the power of the apex

Thanks for the feedback! So you guys think I should go for a Nytro? Nytro drivers that I know locally and my dealer are telling me to stay away from anything older than a 2010 model because of the updates in the chassis.

I agree and disagree with that. I guess it depends on how much you want/are willing to change things on it.. To me, the biggest plus for a 2010+, is the tunnel. Rear skid is nice, but could be lighter. Front end geometry is improved, can be swapped out. Idk its up to you as far as "building your sled," or buying it...

I have about 350 miles on my sled now and the only thing I can say is wow. It is all stock except for the roll-over valve set up. The low to mid range torque is excellent, we were riding an old meandering river bed (about 60 miles) with about 3 feet of fresh power and I lead the pack most of the way. There were 3 M1000 and 2 M8, we never could get much over 35 mph before you would come to the next bend and I was always one of the first through the bend. It is so easy to cut through the corners and as the day went on the harder I road it and the more fun I had, all the guys were impressed how well it went, more than once I was challenge by one of the other guys and even with the power they had I stayed right with them. I would never hesitate to buy another 4 stroke and the Nytro MTX design for boondocking is excellent.

I am going through the same thing right now. If I do make the switch I think I will go with some kind of boost.

I have put about 150 miles on a 2010 Nytro SE with the 162 this year so I have a feel for both sleds. Someone earlier nailed it - I want my Apex motor and fuel tank on the Nytro. I'm not holding my breath but I am curious to see if they make any changes for 2012.
