So long story short. Two weeks after my Mountain Viper tow job and chop busting by my Ski-Doo buddies earlier this season , I decide to evolve into the 21st Century and purchased an ’06 Apex Mountain from a private party with the following after market goodies and 1200 miles on her:
Sly Dog 3 color urban camo Powder Hound skies
Timbersled Mountain Tamer Back suspension with Dual Fox Float shocks and Ice Scrapers
Camoplast 162x16x2.25 track
Wahl Bros No Slip Drive Sprockets
Boss Seat
Stock engine
Gearing and clutches: Gearing has been changed from stock but I’m not too sure to what. I’m assuming the clutches have been tweaked but I’m not sure either.
I just got the sled back from the Yamaha shop tonight so they could give it the old once over to make sure I don’t get towed out twice in one season. Everything checked out and they did an oil/filter change and lube so I should be ready to rock and roll.
The question is: With my current set up do I need to be aware of any additional issues/concerns?

Yes ----- FILL HERE UP BEFORE RIDING.
If you flip it on its side hit the kill switch just to make sure you don't run it without oil Pressure.
They have a safety that will kill the engine if there is no oil pressure but I like to make sure myselfe.
It has to be way over befor that ever happens.
You may need to set up the suspension for your weight.
The jack shaft and drive shaft bearings on the clutch side can give grieve if they look like there is any rust coming out change them. I change the chaincase and those two bearings every second season just to make sure.
The Apex is a great sled here is a pic of mine

You've got a lot of the work done for you already. I'd fill her up and ride her this season and decide at the end of the season what else you need. The only thing that you don't have that I would highly recommend is a set of 'Better Boards' (or any equivilant brand) if you ride in deep snow to keep the snow from building-up under your feet. Max

wait for the light....
make sure the light for the warm up is off...you can foul the plugs if you do not wait for it to warm up..and dont tuch the throutle..till its warm...if it does die..then try and hold the throutle full and turn it over...if this does not work..then change the plugs...so let it warm up..

If you fire it up when it's cold (-15C or less) make sure you let it get good and warm before shutting it off.
Put some dielectric grease on your starter relay contacts to keep moisture out.
You might want to open the chain case and check that the bolt keeping the lower gear on the drive shaft has been upgraded. It was relatively common for the bolt head to break off then eventually the gear to drop off the spline. It may have just been an '06 issue.
I'd recommend OFT steering bushings to decrease the steering slop.
After you have rolled it a couple of times and you have broken off the plastic tabs that hold the headlight on. Don't sweat it, just drill a couple of holes in the head light pod and zip tie it to the sled. Don't be afraid to roll it to get it unstuck!
5000kms on mine and the only problems I'd fault Yamaha for were that chain case bolt and the starter relay. Oh, ya and the mav track was junk but you've got that fixed!

Hey Max,
I checked out the "Better Board" web site and I don't see the benefit. I've had the sled in deep snow at this point and snow build up did not seem to be an issue.

Deep snow is relative, last time I rode we had 7 feet of fresh powder, you will know when it is "deep" because your speedo will be covered in snow, and you'll need to dig through a foot of snow to find the key.
We have better boards on the Phazer, and they help, but they won't fix the problem, if it is too cold you'll get ice buildup in the footwells.
The Apex is not as bad as the Nytro or Phazer with the snow buildup, as the heat exchangers under the running boards melt off a lot of the snow.
