buddy had one of those and the dang thing broke the first time. They are so small and made of light material that in my mind really arent worth it. They might help with light stuff, but really dont do much more than what your boat and gloves can do.

I want my shovel with me, not my sled. Same thing with my saw, I have them both in my back pack.

Backpack is the best place for your shovel/saw.

Back pack is for the shovel, probe, and saw you would use if you had to dig someone out of an avy. The tunnel bag is for the shovel to dig out your buddies machine that got stuck. This way your not pulling the shovel out of your backpack unless you really have to.

a shovel should always be in close reach, and if the sled rolls and snow slides you need to be able to access it.
I could see myself getting stuck and not being able to reach the shovel, easily, to dig the sled out.
Cool product if your riding flat deep powder fields, but Big Mountain Riding, im skeptical, and favor having my shovel attached to me.

Anyone with a shovel on their back must have smug confidence that they will never crash. Put it on the snowmobile.

if you crash the sled you would be without the shovel if the sled goes ghost riding down the mountain. if it is on you then you will still have access to it. also a 600 pound sled rolling and placing weight on the shovel will more likely break it then a 200 pound person.4x4 said:Anyone with a shovel on their back must have smug confidence that they will never crash. Doesn't feel nice to land on a shovel. The shovel won't break, but your back might.

Who cares about crashing, were your helmet and your fine, this is avalanche equipment were talking about here and should never be kept on the sled, in case you have to Bail and the sled gets extremely buried, or rolls.
I would never leave my Avalanche Becon or my probe on my sled when riding in the backcountry, and theres no way in BC, I would ever leave the shovel on the sled.

Random photo. "This is why you wouldn't want to leave your shovel on your sled"
