Hey Guys,

Running on lake today and blew the belt. It shredded into multiple strings and wound itself completely throughout the workings of the secondary clutch. I had to get towed by a passing doo. The guy took photos!
:o|

I'm planning on pulling off clutch to declutter it and replacing belt. Do I need to make any changes (washers etc) for an OEM belt. As far as I know, everything is stock. Thanks

as long as the new belt rides where it is supposed to you won't need to worry about shims.
all belts are not exact so just check it out.
i towed in a doo a couple of weeks back that just quit on the trail, so no biggie having one return the favor!

How many miles on the clutches? I would replace the secondary spring if your over 5000, mine never shredded the belts until that spring got weak. See the post titled "Belt Slippage" for more info

Towed an 07 machz renegade last weekend blew the crank at 4600 miles 4200 in costs to fix needs long block, not bad. lol hopefully will get some help from doo it was only month and half out of warranty. stuff happens but I can say no yami engines yet, suspension probs but no engines, so far 2 doos let go their engines one at 4600 and one at 3600. hmm, oh ya all stock, that is why I still ride my slow heavy yamis which by the way keep right with the mach all the way through the speedo. Not bashing at all just the facts.

Disasembled secondary this morning and pulled out all the braided remains. I had a lot of trouble opening up the secondary to get the belt over.Is there a trick for these things. It took two of us. I don't see how one guy can change a belt on the side of the trail. Maybe I need to spend more time in the gym! :exc:

I find it easiest to twist the helix itself to separate the sheaves on the secondary. A second set of hands does help but is not absolutely necessary in a pinch. It's a good thing a guy doesn't blow many belts on these Yamahas. Still on my original at 4600 miles, but may change it before next season.
