2017 RS Vector
Hello,
I have a 2017 RS Vector with a 129 track and singleshot suspension skid. I would like to convert it to a 146 skid like on a 2017 RS Vector X-TX 1.75.

I have downloaded the parts diagrams from the Yamaha website and compared the suspension systems and it looks like the differences are the drive sprockets, two sliders, two slider frame rails, track, and an extra bunch of shafts and plates for a total of around $2000 US.

My questions are:

1) Is there anyone here that has done this conversion or is an expert on Singleshot skids?

2) Are the mounting locations on the tunnel in the same positions? I ask because the X-TX and my sled have different tunnel part numbers and I am wondering if it has something to do with the tail length on the tunnel or something else.

3) How big of a lug can this setup take? Is anything different on an X-TX to clear that higher lug?

4) Anyone have a source for finding used parts? I was looking for a high mile sled to swap the parts on or even a wrecked sled but I have come up empty handed.

Thanks in advance for your help!

in no way an expert on these skids, but looking like the drive sprockets are smaller for more front cooler clearance with the 1.75 lug from the fiche. have not looked under one with the 1.75 lug to see how much clearance there was but odds are it would take a 2" with no issues.

the different part # on the tunnel are most likely for different holes for the rear suspension brackets as they are different according to the part #'s. the extension for the tunnel is a different part # from the short track to the long track as well according to port yamaha parts fiche.

you might want to look for 16-18 apex xtx as well as the suspension on the xtx was the same for all of them. i have heard of a few 16 apex xtx that lost the engine but most of those where in the usa.

looked into doing this to a used 15 apex that my local dealer had a screaming deal on as i already had the suspension and brackets from a 2012 apex xtx but it sold before i got to it. still trying to get my 16 to ride and transfer like my 11. it is the transfer that bugs me the most.

Thank you for the response, I will widen my search for apex machines as well. Your information is helpful, the more I'm looking into this I am thinking its a good idea. I have almost 3000km on mine and I can't get it to transfer or really do anything for that matter. The rear shock sucks, trail handling sucks, and its too heavy to try to throw it around the corners to compensate for poor handling. My favourite part of it is how you have to take half of the sled apart to take your battery out. Worst $15,000 ever spent. At least if I can swap it to a 146 track with a bit of lug it shouldn't get stuck if I go off trail a bit. It is reliable though...

have you taken the time to set up the sled? still running the tuner skis?

a lot of dealers just take them out of the box, throw them together, make sure fluids are full and the brakes and engine work. in the case of float shocks, they make sure they are above minimum pressure witch might not be right for you.

i have gotten them with horrible toe in/out, front suspension jacked up too high, rear suspension set all backwards, suspension set too stiff in the rear, suspension too soft and the slider melters. all of this was fixed with the help of this site

Without the updated shock you might as well be riding a mechanical Bull

true on the stock single shot shock sucking on 2016 and 2017 sleds. updated to the 18 shock it rides way better. no comment on how the hygear or other aftermarket replacement coil overs work as i have not tried one yet.

So after I posted my opinion. I had the opportunity to pull my sleds of the trailer thanks to recent snow. Need the trailer for Cargo purposes. Last spring I bought the updated shock from Travis got a good deal and it was new. Put it in my Wife’s sled. Never got to test it though. Well I have a 1/2 mile round trip test track on my property. I pulled my sled off first old shock. Then I pulled off hers. Wow they should have put that shock in in the first place. What an amazing difference. Hope I can find another one. Really want the Hygear. But money is tight. P.S. I bought 2 soft start clutch springs from Travis at the same time. What a difference they make!
