since i've broken a "W" arm every year since 99 im thinking of using a ski doo suspension . if i do ,which model ski doo should i be looking for and how much trouble to put one in? thanks. p.s. rx1 03 :yam:

go with a ck 3 or newer 121 or 136 either way is will work out nicer then the yamaha skid. Install is easy just use this to get your measurement right

good luck

My pivot arm cracked last year. I am wrestling with Yamaha this week to get the Y.E.S. to cover it. In their discussions with the Service Manager, he indicated that Yamaha is claiming the problem with the cracks is because we do not set up our suspension right? They wanted pics of the bumper stops on the rails below the rubber bumpers in the pivot arm. Apparently if the bumper stops are all beat up, that is an indication that the suspension is not set up correctly. Unfortunately for them, my bumper stops were intact. But, I still had the cracks.

These cracks are stress related. They also are in the heat affected zone (i.e. right next to the weld.) This clearly is a stress set up by the welding. At the N-Plant, we stress relieve welds or follow a weld procedure that precludes the stress in the first place.

I would bet that if you took the pivot arm that you have and TIG weld it and then keep it hot and let it cool slowly you could beat the stresses. Also, it would be very easy to add a structural supports that would preclude further breakage.

If Yamaha does not warranty mine, I am going to repair it and beef it up. I may also have one of my welding engineers take a look at it to see if he thinks one type of weld is better. I may just play around with the different welds using different processes as an experiment to see which type weld holds up better.
