I recently bought an '03 rx-1 M identical to mine, except it's the very basic package, for parts. The motor is blown in it but I bought it for the body and a few other things. Anyways a skid plate came with it. I want to know what I need to put the skid plate on mine as I only have the plate. I would like to kno the hardware I need, if it's a kit I can buy or make somethin up from home, and how to install it.

I believe yamaha sells the mounting kit seperate. When i did mine I just picked up a rivet-nut tool and rivet nuts. The aluminum is almost thick enough down there to just tap the holes and thread the screws right in.It has to stay on yet come off quick and easy for the oil changes.

Yes exactly, so this rivet-nut tool, that's a tool in it's own or is it just a rivet gun and different rivets? Do you have any idea how much the mounting kit costs or where I could find it on the web?

the rivenut tool is a nut and bolt all it is

You can get a mounting kit from a yamaha dealer (sma-8fa34-mt-kt)for $16.95us or go to harbor frieght and get item #1210-6vga "threaded insert riviter tool"for $16.99us which comes with various size threaded inserts and tool. Not sure if yamaha's kit can be installed without a tool. You won't have good access to the back side. These are also sometimes called "blind rivets"

Yamaha's mounting kit comes with an insertion tool and a bolt. To install, you bolt the insertion tool to the stud, insert it into the hole, then hold the insertion tool with a wrench while tightening the bolt which will act like a rivet gun and bend the insert so it stays in the belly pan. Then remove the bolt and insertion tool and use on the next insert. I just reused the skid plate from my '05 Rage for my '10 Vector GT and only purchased the mounting kit. It worked fine.
