So the girlfriend has picked up a brand new 2012 RS Vector.

Prior to this, she had a '07 F6. I always kept duallie carbides on it with the stock skis. The steering effort was light and never darty. She wants the same feel from this Vector.

The dealer we got the Vector from has a like new set of Simmons skis he says will work perfect and they're even the matching colour to the sled. He'll sell them for $250.

Question to you guys. Are these skis to good deal not to pass up and try out at least? Seams I could get my money back if they don't.

Or is it a waste to even go this way? I've heard they handle great but add some steering effort. Wondering if the EPS would take care of that?

I see mention of the snowtrackers on here and I have been told to look at the Yamaha dual keels skis that have come out as well.

Looking for some recommendations here. She is all about trail riding and nothing else. Long days without fatigue.

Precision handling is not the goal. She's not looking to hug the apex on every corner.

The EPS will take any ski/ski pressure you throw at it and still turn effortlessly.

That being said I suggest installing the combination of ski/runners that will ensure no darting as well as long runner life. If you think the Simmons will do that for ya... go for it. Do not concern yourself with steering effort.

FWIW, I will be trying the Yamaha tuners this year but do not have any feedback for you yet on their performance.

I have a friend that bought a '12 vector. First ride on it she was miserable and let her husband ride it the rest of the day. I could see the sled hunting/darting when she would come to stops behind me. I had an extra set of Woody's dually's with me on our trip and the next morning first thing I installed them for her. 100% better the next day and she rode the sled the rest of the week. This past summer I added 96 studs to it to make it even better for her. I had this exact same set-up on my '10 vector gt and this thing was on a rail! The '12 with the eps and dually's did not turn harder. All we ride are trails!

havent messed with an eps sled yet but Dartless plates work great if your happy with the stock skis and she isn't into hard cornering.
The new tuner(kimpex arrow)skis are a great ski, no darting, great bite. cant beat the price. full 6inches wide. weigh almost nothing, as if that last part matters, we ride yamahas

I ran a set a doolies on my nytro and was not impressed. Sure they stpped the darting, but made the sled turn heavy, lots of push in the corners and tons of drag on the skis, which eroded gas mileage big time. Only ran them for a Few hundred km's and threw them away. Put split rails on it and have never looked back.

When I got the vector, I didn't even play around with stock skis. I immediately put a twin keel ski it - kimpex arrows. Real happy with them. They track great, handle pretty good, still a bit of push in corners but I attribute that to the vector being a heavy sled. If I could, I would put tuner skis on them. Checked out a pair last week at my dealer. Similar keel design to the arrow, but appear to be a much more rigid and durable ski. Don't be shy on the amount of carbide. I have two 5" carbides on each ski of my arrows and it tracks and grips good. Putting a round bar or a 2" carbide is a waste of time in my opinion.

So I went to the Yamaha dealer today. He said the Tuners are supposed to be a great ski but they don't have any.

They have been on back-order from Yamaha since August. WTF?

Same deal for the carbides.

They took my name and said they'd call if they come in but there is no expecting deliver date given.

I was going to get a set of those Dupont slides too but same deal, back-ordered and they have a list of people waiting for those too. They said they only got 6 sets of the slides last year.

So its either grab the Simmins and try them or stick with what we have for now and see what happens.

Thanks for the advise guys.

Check the big dealers on this site. They have these products in stock! Call them up or order on the web. The "brown" (or white) thuck will stop at your house in a day or two. There is a dealer here in my state, has the skies and slides.

Surprised to hear that Blackstar as these were some of the issues people talked about last year, which I thought they'd have sorted out by now :o|

My carbides came in today but only 1 pair of skis which go to the guy at the top of the wait list. Apparently I'm 8th at this point.

I'm not in a big rush for them. We won't have ride-able snow here until mid January anyways.

Thanks for the tip above but I don't see the point in ordering them in from the U.S. with shipping fees and what ever extras go with that.

Ordered them today was told December 21 they will be in. Dealer had ordered A ton and sold more then they expected.

Mine came in yesterday.

Dealer said she had 6 pairs come in.

Sweet, I can wrap them and they count as a present.

Good to hear. ;)!
You don't happen to know if your dealer got any of the new Dupont slides in as well do you?

No Dupont slides. They were getting frustrated with that. Seams they have a long list of people already waiting for them.
I didn't put my name on that list yet. With the way the weather is going, it could be a while yet before we need them anyways.
