Took my sled out this weekend. Noticed a slow nocking noise coming from the back side of the engine. Noise started to get progressively louder as I rode. Sled than began to have major backfiring when slowing down. Now it seems to have a decent power loss and from what I can tell this noise sounds now like an exhaust leak, does this sound correct?

Yes, sounds correct. I take it you have an Apex/Attak? How many miles on your sled? This is a sure sign you need to replace (get new) exhaust donuts.

Thanks for the response, sled is a 2006 apex rtx. 4900 miles on it with dought the gaskets have ever been replaced. I am assuming I need to take the seat and gas tank out to get to the Exhaust? Any quick tips to getting the job done?

Look for Rockerdan's sticky above. It's awesome and walks you thru the entire job.

"time to make the donuts!" LOL
been there many times over. If you've been riding it this way, you may need Y pipes and a can too. You may consider an aftermarket system. some are cheaper than replacing with OEM parts. Good Luck!

Sorry, can't help you, my YES warranty has replaced my stuff every time. The others in my crew have welded and fixed theirs with OEM. I bet you can search forum for aftermarket exhaust or check peoples mods and PM them.Force4000 said:Raypex, what wouldyou recommend for aftermarket? I justbought this sled 3 weeks ago. Yea if the y pipes are damaged I'll probably weld them myself, thanks for the advice. I'm going to take it apart tonight, I'll update with a damage report.

Well got it all apart. Right side y pipe flange to flex pipe is just gone. There's a good inch gap seperating the two pipes. 2 of the flex pipes end flanges are also worn through. All 3 Donut gaskets are completely shot and theres one just missing where the gap is. I need a new right side y pipe, 2 flex pipes, 4 donuts, all the clamps were rusted on so they had to be replaced. From what I can tell all the damage is due to the worn donuts which were never replaced by the previous owner.

Yep, if they have never been replaced you actually went further than most of us before they needed to be replaced....
