Just started the sled up for the first time today. Been stored since June. Took a bit to get her going and everything sounded ok at first but when it gets warmed up and you close the choke it just sputters out and dies.

One time at half choke the idle started running away and I quickly killed it just after 4k RPM before I had a runaway sled. lol

So, what's the verdict? Carb needs cleaning?

Bad gas/gummed carbs. I would start with fresh gas and if that doesnt work then clean the carbs.

x2, was about to say the same thing.

X3, same thing just happened to me. Sputtered and died soon as choke pushed to off position, and wouldn't take the throttle. Put in fresh gas, problem solved.

Sounds like the pilots jets need to be cleaned. I would get startron with new gas and try that first, if does not fix the problem clean the pilots jets.

Got it going. Fresh gas. Sprayed some carb cleaner into it. It was idling really low, like 800rpm. So I adjusted that and it seems ok now.

On a different note I hear a rattling from under the seat, exhaust donuts? What are the ramifications if they're shot? Can I ride the season and replace them next year?

Thanks.

If they are shot change them before the snow comes.

Have the exhaust shields been removed from the exhaust? I would check those first.

As said, change them now before the season starts. The rattling and exhaust noise will only get worse. If replacing the donuts you might want to check out the new copper donuts from Sled Toyz, should last much longer and they are located in Canada.

How accessible are the shields? Do I have to drop the skid to see them?

It's my first season with this sled so I really don't know what has or hasn't been done.

Thanks.

you can spray carb clean in while running or shut off?

Sprayed into each intake while sled was at a fast idle. Few shots into each one making sure not to stall it out. I just followed the directions on the can. Figured I'd give it a go before ripping the whole thing apart to clean them out.

You will not have to drop the skid to see them but will to take them out. If you can see the pipes from front to back they are gone. if you see the shields take them out anyways!
