There was a post about this a while back but I couldn't find it. I was planning on putting the narrower slides on my apex when it comes time to change.. mainly because narrower = less friction and they would be easier to get through the track windows than the wider slides....
However I was just thinking.... Won't the narrower slides allow the track more side to side play??? Seams like it would increase the side to side play of the track while riding if the slides are narrower....
Any thoughts???

That's exactly the reason I never tried them, I figured it would only worsen the wheel issues. I know it's not an easy thing to actually acomolish but it seemed that once I got my suspension set up correctly the hifax wear was not an issue. Just need to get the right balance from front to back. Unfortunatly I think the result is increased ski pressure. So as ussual you can't have it all.

I have used both they act the same to me. The narrower ones lasted longer but all the same to me

Narrower has more side to side movement...both will work, seems worst if your studded.

Well I was set on getting a set of narrow slides due to less friction but thinking about this I may stick to he wide slides...

i have over 6,000 mi with the narrow ones, 0 issues, this is one of many little tricks to get the most speed out of the machine

i think the friction idea is wrong. wide slides have less lbs. per square inch, reducing friction. the one possible advantage that narrow slides might have is they dont physically cover the entire track clip opening, maybe allowing in more snow for lube. i think the difference either way would be minimal.

X2...I'm using the WIDER hyfax with a closed track and actually get better wear than my Bud who's using the NARROW hyfax with a fully clipped track, go figure

Now that ya mention it, that really makes sense. I didn't think of it like that but Im thinking you may be right. I do see how they would let more snow in but they may actually increase friction... we tested slide MODS yrs ago on radar.
-less material makes more speed(radar fact)
-less material wears out faster(fact)
-narrow allows more snow in windows(better top speed) but still wear out faster due to less material overall
for the average guy,i would run STOCK WIDE SLIDES for longer wear, less side to side motion in twisty trails of track. For me im all about top speed so ill always run narrow drilled out.
old time racers would run the sliders down a table saw removing 1/2"-3/4" material from center of slide creating a "U" and would gain 3-5mph on ice.
