Hey All,
I plan on replacing my slides, is it easier to replace them with the rear susp out, or is it ok to do it with the susp in? Thanks! Frank.

slides

I'm sure there are several opinions as to what is easier. When I change slides I remove the suspension so I can take a good look at everything and grease it up good. Just my opinion

On the phazer you can easily slide them out through the track windows. If you plan on snowmobiling along time, order yourself a hyfax puller tool. I got one before I ever changed a set of hyfax in my life, and the first time it took me about 30 minutes to change a set. Now after knowing how to do it, it will only take me about 10 minutes with the tool, assuming everything goes as planned.

Just get the track off the ground..loosen the track tention..takeout the screws that hold the sliders in place (in the front ) and pull them out through the track window (grip them with vice grips). Cut your new ones to length..lubercate the slide channel REAL good and slide them back on through the track window, insert the holding screws, tighten the track and your done.

Tighten the track evenly and your done. Everyone forgets to mention the evenly part or your track will not run true. I do this by counting the threads and turns. Start the thread counting process by getting both sides of the tensioner nuts dead even with the top of the tensioner bolts as a starting point. I then put on my ratchet starting at the top or bottom and count the complete turns to tighten the track lets say 10 turns, do this on both sides. Check your track tightness and depending on how much more you have to tighten it just keep track of the turns and do both sides. Your track will run true and be at the same tightness on both sides by tightening the track in this manner. When making adjustments later on make sure to tighten or loosen your track the same amount of turns on each side. If you get all screwed up or forget where your at bring both nuts to the end of the bolt as a starting point and start over.

I took suspentions out and "checked em" for years. Two years ago I got the slide puller tool and thats great, If you're confident slides is all you want to do. New phazer last faal , slides thin in the spring, lookit over pull em out reinsert, tighten and wala. Older sled pull the suspension. I'll probley pull mine after a ride or two this winter , especialy with all the linkage talk, and a couple of zerks need to be welded better than jap. I've never counted my turns but that sounds true, I just runit on a stand and tighten or loosen whichever side needs to be driven towards or loosened away from. works for me. aslong as when you're done the overall tension is ok.
