This has been covered time and time again. Do a search and you'll find plenty of reading material. IMO they are great skis!

They have been working great for me on hard pack. Not much new snow around here, but I'm heading out to West Yellowstone for a week, leaving Friday. I have Powderhounds on both my son's Viper and my Apex...we'll really see how they work in the snow then...

If you had your choice for high speed trail running Slydogs or Pilot 5.7?

Either is good, I'm sure. I think the Pilots are cheaper. I think the Slydogs are cooler looking.

Yes way better looking, but almost $200 more than the pilots

Hardpacked groomed trail both are great, but I think the Powderhounds will be better off trail in deeper snow. I like my Powderhounds.

Ive read, that if yo run the slydogs, you better be prepared to shim the skis, like you do to the OEM skis.. to keep them from darting..
im sure they dont turn as easily as the pilots..

Current Slydogs are "pre-shimmed". They come with a rubber block that is WAY different than the stock Yamaha block. It's thicker, supplies better compression, and is cut so as to add the same type of tail pressure that is the point of shimming OEM. So no, Slydogs don't need to be shimmed and they don't dart.
As to turning, I can't compare since I haven't ever tried the Pilots, but steering effort is only marginally increased over the OEM skis. Of course, OEM comes with 3 inches of carbide whereas my Slydogs have 4 inches.
I doubt that the OP would be disappointed by the Pilots. I hear very few complaints about them. I went with Slydogs anticipating better deeper snow performance - I put on about 1200 miles per year in Montana. If I weren't concerned about flotation and performance on deeper/looser snow groomed trails, I might have opted for the Pilot 5.7s.
It might be worth a trip for the OP to head over to DooTalk or other SkiDoo forums and read what SkiDoo owners are saying about them. Pilot's seem to get better reviews from Yamaha owners than from SkiDoo owners.

They work awesome!! I have the powder hounds on my wifes 08 Ski-doo. She says they steer alot better than her factory 5.7 pilots did,and are alot better off trail. They also don't dart like the pilots did. She used the pilots for 500 miles before the switch to slydogs. And as states before they look alot better!!

You can buy the Pilot kit with everything you need for 191.00. Just put them on and love them.I'm sure the Powderhounds work better in deep snow but the pilots have worked great on trail I have not tried them in deep snow yet.

Shoot - Sweet looking sled! Who makes those A-arm covers?

Thanks. The A-arm protectors are made by USI as I remember. I got them from Forum Vendor, Rich Motorsports for $100. They seem to be pretty tuff. I dread the thought of having to take them off though if I ever do bend an A-Arm. It was hard enough to reach the nuts on the inside of them now let alone when they are all bent up.
