I have never snow checked a snowmobille and was wondering what the advantages are? If you are not going to get the snow check only model, dosent it make more sense to wait until the dealers have them in stock? Wouldn't prices be cheaper when the dealers are sitting on them rather then snow checking them? Or do they sell them cheaper because they dont have to buy them and sit on them?

There are a couple of advantages with SnowCheck. One is that you get $800 in Yamaha dollars that can be spent towards the purchase of Yamaha stuff. Optionally, most dealers have a scheme where you can keep this money or give it back to the dealer in order to reduce the price of your sled. So they will say things like a Vector is $8800 snow checked and you keep the $800 Yamaha dollars, or the Vector is $8300 and they keep the $800 in Yamaha dollars. In other words, they keep some of the money. Most people on this site last year seemed to let the dealer keep the Yamaha dollars in order to reduce the price of their sled. Remember, the Yamaha dollars are applied against product list prices, not against dealer discounts. The price I mentioned above for the Vector is only for illustrative purposes and not meant to be the actual price.
Secondly, you are guaranteed to get the sled you want in that colour scheme. I suspect the demand on Yamaha's will be great this year because of their awesome lineup and that many people are switching to Yamaha. If you know you going to purchase a sled this year, I would do it.
You only have to put down $300 to reserve you sled and the rest is due when you pick up the sled in Sept or Oct. If you later decide not to get the sled, you lose the $300.

In most causes the snow check deal makes sure the sled you order is there in the fall.This deal is usual best for spring only models or limited builds,but i have seen limited builds or spring sleds sitting at dealerships well into next season.Cause in point.This past november i purchased a black 2004 warrior with a $2300cdn discount,at the same time there was a dealer in gander nf with a supposed limited build 2004 viper s going for $9800cdn.They do sell alot of yamahas at the various dealers but every year i do hear about or see a limited build from the past winter for sell in the fall,and that goes for the other sled brands.

I didn't realize that you only had to put 300 down to order it. It makes more sense now. So you can invest the 9,000 all summer then pay for it in the fall. Thats great now for sure i can sneak it by the wife

Ive all but one time snow checked my sleds. Always found that prices are the best and dont come down to that level again until around Feb when the dealers are starting to feel pressure to get unsold stock off the floor.
Yamaha, I think is going to take a big market share jump this year. Around January if not december Apex sleds could be in short supply, who knows at this point?
If you are snowchecking a GT, I'd bet you could sell your order (get the $300 back) to someone else as they could be in very short supply come fall.
Keeping the $800 is a good deal if you plan on buying cloths, luggage or whatever. What you are getting essentially is these things half off, because if you decline it, it is only a $400 cash value discount on your sled.
The Yamaha credit card is a good purchasing tool too. As it is interest free until the end of March

I have always snowchecked. I've always managed to find what I thought was a very fair price, and when you consider the $800 and that I have been able to spend that money on ANY part, not just Yamaha parts then the deal only gets better. With a new sled there are always extras that you have to buy just to get it where you want it. Studs, Skid Plates, Oil, Filters, you name it. Even after doing this a few times I still find myself thinking that the actual purchase of the sled is only about 3/4 the cost of getting it on the trail!
