On my sled there is snow coming up through the tunnel and cooling the pipe. But thats not the problem. The snow melts and runs down the tunnel and soaks my boots. Any suggestions on how to stop besides closing the tunnel?

Is it a 2007 or 08? If it's and 07, Yamaha will under warranty supply panels to close off the tunnel.

they will just add the side panels, mine is getting them tomorrow under warranty, but i would recommend closing off the tunnel as well since there is so much ice build up under the tunnel, which adds alot of unwanted weight

Save yourself the headache and just get some aluminum from Home Depot or Lowes and close that back hole uder the exhaust and then also the 2 holes along side the grab handle. That will definitely make your riding much more enjoyable. I am debating on closing off the front part of the tunnel as just closing the rear helped tremendously.

Yamaha sells side pannels that should at the very least limit the snow that gets on the running boards. They also claim that the panels strengthen the subframe.
The part number for the panels is:
Aluminum: SMA-8GCSK-00-AL
Black: SMA-8GCSK-00-BK
Blue: SMA-8GCSK-00-BL
The panels arent exactly cheap though, they list for $139.95.

re

The panels don't strengthen the subframe. They are just plastic that bolts to the tunnel but doesn't attach in any way to the subframe. However when you side panels are installed, they will also install a small brace which does strengthen the subframe a bit. however it is retardedly heavy. :o|

if your mostly a trail rider, you'll be glad you closed at least the rear hole. the side panels help with the icing on the outside and running boards, but you'll be carrying an extra 20-30lbs of ice and snow on the inside after a good days riding if you leave it open.

Are they doing anything for us idiots who spent the $140 for the tunnel close off plates and the $175 for the 'un-necessary' (but required) cooling fan????

Nothing like having to pay for the items that correct design flaws of a brand new sled......

ive spent some change fixin theyre mistakes to and im still payin hope it comes back fixed this time what part of ny do you live roic ind
