Snow Flap no more

Backed sled out of my enclosed trailer and ripped my snow flap off and tore it up pretty good. It already was full of holes from getting caught by my picks on my track. My question is if I go with a shorter snowflap what are the repercussions good and bad. Will it have much effect on my cooling and will my buddies riding behind me hate me for throwing rooster tails. Also has anyone painted the rear grab handle? It looks like crap after one year of riding. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Take that rear rail off and polish it to look like chrome. Do a search on here on polishing tunnels and you will find a bunch of info.

I bet the flap has a dual purpose. One would be to prevent the rooster from enveloping the driver in snow dust. Then the other purpose would be to keep from thowing heavy things out at someone behind you. Just think how much snow is on your back during a ride in the fluffy stuff. Then with out the flap this would be even worse. Not for sure but its how Im thinking.

I went to a shorter flap on my RX1 shortie... No cooling problems and I have asked by buddies and no concerns about rooster tails. No more problems backing up. I would strongly suggest the shorter flap..

Depends on your track. I dare you to ride behind an M7 with his track reversed. You'll get tired of that REAL FAST!!!!

And no comments about being behind an M7. That's not my point.

I can only speak for my 04 shortie with stock suspension. No regrets that long flap sucked...Used to carry a bungie cord for when ever I want to put it in reverse..Anyone need one I have the original flap..

I would stay with the longer flap. You might run into overheating problems if you end up riding in marginal snow conditions.

I have had trouble with backing up also. when I put reverse in my rx-1 the first time I tryed it I sucked up the flap and eat it.then again with my new vector. I read some old post and allot of guys were saying thay had good luck with the snow flap support bracket. there a w bracket that keeps the flap from getting sucked in. I have ordered one for sled. I am hoping that will work.

Yamaha used to list a "snowflap limiter". It looks like a sort of tether that attackes to the tunnel on one end and the flap on the other.
Im not exactly sure if it would keep you from backing over the flap but it might be worth a shot.

just bend the bracket that the snow flap sits on...or fabricate an angled piece on there so it sits at more of an angle. the end will be farther away from teh track, plus higher off the ground.

Great idea, plus its still closer to the ground than a short flap would be. With that shorter flap you will kick stuff at riders behind you,

I simply trimmed about 2 1/4" to 2 1/2" off of my stock flap. Then I rounded the corners off with a dremel tool and barrel sander attachment for a "stock" look.

No cooling problems at all, and no more catching it when I back up either. Plus I didn't have to pay for a new flap. I also will occasionally bend the rear aluminum tab up as well. Just insert a pice of steel or wood under it and pull up on both sides. Works like a charm!
