My modular helmet has a broken latch allowing a decent amount of air to hit my face. Im interested in buying the klim f4 helmet with goggles but im afraid if i ride in below zero temperatures my nose would fall on my lap. You see the snowcross style helmets in every magazine. I dont want to buy the helmet if its not practicul. Any help would be appricated. :4STroke:

I use to ride with open face and it all depends on how you set your self up. I had a warm neck gater thing that I could pull up over my nose that that worked fine. They make goggles now that actually have a nose piece that covers your nose too. My cousin I ride with swears by these... nice if you get tair offs for the googles too so when you get a bunch of ice and snow on the goggles you can just rip it off to a frest sight.

I have both a snocross style and full face (both HJC) and I used to never wear the snocross one below about 15 deg F due to the issues you noted, although not so much my nose but the area around my cheeks and under my eyes. Since then, however, I got a different breath deflector and did some work making sure all of my skin was covered around my goggles by pulling the sides of my breath deflector way up to the sides and now I'm able to ride at beow zero temps comfortably. The full face is still warmer but I like the leight weight & great visibility of the snocross style. I have the stock low Apex windshield so wind protection is zero - a higher windshield would certainly help. If you only could own one helmet, however, I'd opt for a full face to be safe so you're not left freezing if you want to ride at 30 below. If you can swing two then grab a snocross for the nicer days. Riding in the UP of MI, I find I wear my snocross about 75% of the time, the other 25% I opt for the full face.

I have used both, been much happier with the full face helmet.

It is simply much warmer & easier to just throw it on & it works, no messing with separate stuff.

Hope this helps! :-o

just buy scott 89XI turbo goggles and u will never fell a thing. O ya and get a face mask from klim. In 3 years with this setup I have had no cold face or neck it will run u about 100 bucks for the goggles and face mask

I run a snowcross style helmet and love it - it is so much lighter. Get good goggles with a nose piece and a good balaclava and you will be all set! I like the R.U. Outside balaclava with the no-fog breath box!

Rock - you have any extra juice out of that Yamaheater?? Wire up your helmet, LOL!

Hhahahhaa!

Working on that! ;)!

You will like! :-o

PS He is correct about the motocross one being lighter, I just don't like to mess with stuff, just wanna throw on and go! lol

I run a Scorpion Moto-x with Pro-Vue goggles and they seal up perfectly around the eye port of the helmet and breath box. Jacket seals up perfect on bottom of helmet and breath box and I don't ever wear a head sock even at 10-15 below zero. Others with full face and modular’s ect. are getting frostbite, their shields are frosting over and I'm not even wearing a head sock with this combo. I do have to block the top vents of the helmet in the winter and that’s it. My goggles have quick straps on them, but I don't even take the goggles off when putting helmet on or taking it off, the goggles stay put right in the eyeport. It’s the best combo I have come across.

It all depends on the brand helmet and goggles you have and the sizing you wear as to how good something works.

Prior to that I had HJC's Moto-x helmets, Bells, Simpsons and also various full face helmets, but never could go without a head sock even at 30 above.

I use a motocross style helmet ( shoei ) and have never had a problem with the cold . Like earlier mentioned you need a good quality face mask and googles . The key for goggles is to get the ones that have a larger frame so they fill up more of the opening in the helmet . I like the scott 89xi .

I wear a moto style helmet I run the Scott VoltageX OTG Thermamax googles which are made for over the glasses but def. fill more of the face port of the helmet up .....these googles have a nose gaurd and a neoprene face mask attached .....that combo and a good clava and u should be fine ....full face is nice but a electric shield on frigid days is a must good luck

I wear the HJC motostyle helment with a klim face mask and Spy Blizzard goggles. This combo is very light and warm for normal riding. If it get 10 or below it is cold with a low windy.
