I took my brand new XP 600 carbed out yesterday , I made it 28 miles from the house and the sled died , carbs and plugs were bone dry , had to be towed out of the woods to the gas station.

Had the dealer come and get it , I am now thinking about stopping payment on the check I wrote Friday for the sled , my Apex has never done this to me so if you are thinking about jumping ship you better think twice.

This is supposed to be ski-doo most reliable motor.Jumping ship can turn into riding in a leaky basket. Our ship may be heavy but it shouldn,t sink.Best of luck with it.

that is what is keeping me on YAMAHA sleds. ive never once had a blue sled leave me on the trail, and i can mod one of these sleds to set it up as good as one of the "other" brands. hell i would mod the other sleds as well anyhow..

Yam engines are undoubtedly the best of all four OEM's ... but they really need to work on a few things - most of which are easy fixes - e.g. front end bushings that do not wear out in a season, boards that let the snow fall away like the aftermarket stuff (Polaris has finally figured this one out) - these do not require a "new sled" or radical design change.
Fix the easy stuff and then move on to refining the bigger issues of weight & balance. I'm sure that with all of Yamaha's tech and engineering ability plus bulk buying, some of the weight could be removed without a major sacrifice in quality.

There are always going to be compromises given the variety of riders, and riding conditions but some things are common to all and if these issues were resolved first then I don't think people would be so quick to jump ship.

In the end though, you pick the machine that best fits your requirements and accept that there will be some trade offs.

Personally, next season I'll be looking for a super charged or turbo phazer .... I have a nytro but find teh phazer to much more fun.

Hopefully the dealer gets it fixed quickly and correctly.

In approx 13000 miles my XT has broke down 2 times. First time was 5 years ago when the primary exploded pulling into the trailer, and last year the drive chain broke. Motor has never been touched and still has 125-130 psi on all 3 cylinders. Had to let someone borrow it today to ride with me because their 09 Etec has 0 PSI on one cylinder.

May 06 apex has left me on my own 2 times now. My 2000 SRX never did that to me in 12000 miles. Its all the little things thats gettimg to most. The most recent was the rear axle lose the nut, spacer, and wheel sending me home early from the UP.

I was 99 percent sure my next sled was gonna come from another OEM. However, it was the Yamaha engine that clinched it for me in the end.

There is no perfect sled that will never let you down.

My Old Phazer II is pretty dang close, 17,000 miles on the old girl, owned it since 700 miles. So far its cost me ONE set of slides and a seeping oil injection pump.......... Though she is ready for a different skid, probibly a POO Xtra 10 Not bad for 17,000 miles on a 2 smoke

I've got an SRV that I love. Had several and this one is unbelievable in all aspects except rear skid, was also some day going to an extra 10. also had phazers and phazer 2's. liked the shorty better for performance, but the 2 rode rode better. that srv motor with pipe and bored carbs, clutching/track etc. is an animal. rides like 4 inches off the running boards though

I jumped the Yamaha ship a few years back mainly because of the little nagging problems and the weight. But I jumped back because of the Apex motor. Nobody else has anything close. The sound alone is priceless. And they basically never blow up. So I will put up with the weight and the little issues. There are also many on this site that claim that the new 11-12 Apexes are so much better than the older ones that I might have to try one. I kind of hate to give up on my '07 as I finally have it where I want it but it is getting old. I see an XTX in my future. Preferably a used one with about 1500 miles on it so I don't have to waste half the season waiting for it to wake up.

Not jumping ship anytime soon. Love my 2007 Phazer, but it sure was tough having the same electrical problem (Code 33 & 34) happen at the end of last season and again this year. The second time was this past weekend, 2 miles down the trail. Lost opportunity for one probable last ride.
