Is there some special trick to getting the plug caps off? I can turn them, but not get them off, and I don't want to break anything if there's some simple trick I don't know about.

well i recently changed my plugs to CR10EK and yeah the hats can be stubborn, but pull em hard and in the right direction and they shall come loose. i did mine from the right side, then i heard that left would be easier, doh^^

Yes they come off a bit hard the first time. Before you re-install them put a bit of dielectric grease on the inner and outer surface of the plug wires. Makes it much easier to remove the next time!
