Newbie
New to Yamaha sleds and would like to check spark plugs. What all has to be taken off to get to the spark plugs (hood, light, side panels)? I have seen some post that the caps themselves are hard to remove, any new special tips or suggestions. Thanks in advance for any info.
P.S. 1100 miles on sled and really like motor so far. Still working on ride but getting closer to my ideal ride with help of this forum.

Don't even think of changing plugs until at least 7,000+ miles.
I just changed plugs in my '06 Apex with 4,800 miles. The only reason I did was because the sled was already torn down for other maintenance.
It was a pure waste of time & money buying the plugs. The plugs were cardboard tan & the gap was still perfect.
Yes the caps are a bitch to get off. You just have to pull & twist at the same time, working them back & forth 'till they come off. You'll need a 5/8 socket with the rubber insert to get the plugs out. I even had to put a dab of grease on the rubber to get the plugs to stick onto to lift them out.
Yes the "hood", headight pod, & side panels come off. The coolant reservoir has to be unbolted & moved outa the way. And, unless you have really small hands, a clamp holding a fuel line will have to be taken off to move the line outa the way.
Knowing what I know now from the Apex, unless I foul a plug(s) on my Vector, I'm not gonna touch them for a LONG time.

yea what he said
generally plugs either fire or they don't. it takes a lot to actually wear them out. i've fogged race engines, taken the car out next season and had it run within .01 of the times it ran when i put it away...a lot of good spark plugs get thrown away

And if this is a Vector, you should be able to see the three coils.
1. Unplug wires from coil
2. pull up on coil and remove
3. drop in plug socket and unscrew

Umm.. yea, he's talking about a Vector, but it's a '10 model. It's little more involved than the older models.

I quess I hadn't looked close at the 2010. I didn't realize they went with the RX-ton disassemble to the ground design
