speedo bearing

i just had the origonal speedo bearing fail at 17000 km (repacked it annually) and it failed in a weird way. the inner race split down the middle of the ball groove. the bearing cage was intact and it was still full of grease when i tore into it as i decided to do the chaincase bearings and jackshaft brg while i was in there.

anyone else have one fail this way?

I just replace it every other year. It’s a $25 bearing. Cheap insurance so you don’t get stranded.

Same here. $20 at Royal D for an NTN. A little never sieze on the driveshaft as well so if it happens to fail mid season the trailside fix is as easy as possible.
