After searching for a while Friday night at the snow show for PowerMadd hand guards, i ended up buying some SportTech brand handgaurds. Question is, How in the hell do you install these on an Apex. There are cables everywhere!!!! Anyone do this yet? I saw the picks of the powermadd's but the sporttechs have aluminum brackets.

Anyone know? I imagine i could just shave down the alum bracket on a grinder.. Anyone install these?

they install the same as the powermadd's pretty much.the power madd's have a alum. bracket also.you'll have to install it on the inside of the throttle block.what color did you get? i was down there but didnt see anything i wanted except the sleds

Got the black ones with the silver going down the middle. $40 for gaurds and brackets. The only powermadd ones i found were $45 plus $16 for the brackets. All of them were selling quick.

I am thinking about mounting them outside of the grips on the handle bar. the sporttech ones appear to work better doing that. I think i will just have to shave the alum down on one side on a grinding wheel.

the price on the powermadds sound high.i sell them for that with the mounts.

you shouldnt have to grind anything.you can just loosen up the throttle and brake assembly and slide it to make room.

Found them priced both ways actually, one place included the brackets and one place didn't. The only problem with the place that did was they only had them in blue.

i hope these sporttechs keep my hands warmer on the RTX. I put them on this afternoon and they look nice.

the handguards do work well.kinda weird that nobody thought about using them on sleds sooner.they were on dirt bikes for a long time.

Rich, I was hoping you were going to have a booth down there. I just sent you an e-mail. Later, Sxrlar.

that show is going down hill.i was there fri. night.i will be doing the novi show though.i sent you a e-mail also.thanks rich

I installed the Power Mad guards on my RTX this weekend. Went by instructions and really had no problems. With the brake housing loose you'll be able to finite your adjustments for clearances before tightening everything up. The parking brake seems to engage fine without having to grind the guard bracket. P.S. WINTER STORM WATCH for tom. night!!!!!

any chance you can get a pic of the brake side? I put the power madd ones on my RTX and I can't set the e brake now. but they do look pisser :D

While your waiting for the pic, try this. With the brake housing & the guard bracket loose enough to move, rotating the guard bracket a little and moving brake housing to the right. If you do rotate the guard bracket and you find you now have clearence, don't forget to loosen the hand guard bolt and rotate the guard where you want it. I'll try to get those pics for you.

Just got back from lunch and I looked at the handguard on the brake side.
All you have to do is first engage the parking brake. Then just slide brake housing to the right till the parking break arm clears the hand guard bracket, about 1/4" to 3/8".

cool I'll take a peak at it when I get home. thanks
