Sr Viper Weight

From Yamaha's Facebook page:

Yamaha Snowmobiles, USA "Right now the SR Vipers are in preproduction phase so we do not have any wight info. I can tell you the target is to be 10-20 pounds lighter than the comparable FX Nytro model. Some may be more, some may be less of a difference."

Why will some be less...oh the parts they forget to install at Cat! Just kidding I couldn't resist...that's a really stupid statement?

It's most official weight specification I can find. I was really hoping it would be lighter.

the rear skid is going to be the main weight loss for the xtx, I think the viper xtx is going to be 20-25 lbs lighter than the nytro xtx. and the rtx and the procross should be within 10 lbs of each other

Sounds about right, the stock Nytro XTX skid weighs 72-74 pounds. A 25 pound weight savings would put the Cat skid in around 49 pounds, which I believe is pretty close to what they weigh.

I don't see the 20-25lb weight loss. They already offer a 141 Viper which will take the place of the XTX by '15 I suspect. In addition, The Sled Talk blog said the TARGET weight was -20 lbs. With two Yamaha sources not saying anything firm leads me to believe the Viper will not be much lighter than the Nytro.

the xtx weighs 76lbs on my scale at work and the 2013 141 weighs 47 lbs on the same scale. and the 3" of less track adds up to another pound or 2. along with the more open and lighter feeling front end of the procross I dont see it as being that hard to accomplish a stock 20-30lb weight loss on the viper xtx

gentlemen...the difference will be in the artic cat's paring away of weight (and necessary parts) from the skid...you will find if you want slide longevity and suspension durabilty you will be adding parts such as wheels and (4) wheel rear axle...

we have seen on the procross egged out rails....premature wear on drivers...cracked rails etc..the front end is decent...but we have seen sway bar link problems (and wear to the body from rubbing) the body plastic is poor quality and the paint is worse...by the time you do whats necessary you will be about the same weight as a nytro BUT you will have a lower CG...

the chassis dynamics are completely better....

the power will be less out of the box period...you will need to spend some money...but there will be power to be had...figure close to what you could do to a nytro with a slighly less total power...

I know NA there will be about 10-15 HP potential and turbo very much like a nytro...

I imagine that the following year will be the real deal for power and refinement..

remember...you are getting a arctic cat with a yamaha engine and clutches...you are getting arctic's fuel injection system...not yams...

to me....this is like buying a riding mower which has a honda motor made by mtd...its not a honda..its a mtd with a honda motor..

This is completely true. Plan on adding the 4 wheel rear kit and extra wheels right away. I have 4 friends with this chassis and they all added the 2 extra wheels

to the rear axle. One of them lost a bearing in one of the wheels before he added it. You aren't riding far when you only have 2 wheels and then lose one of them.

I tried the two wheel kit on my nytro with no luck....axle bent and the rails....so that was the first thing I was going to do

The weights can be found in Arctic Cat's swedish brochure. The ZR7000 SP 129" is 229 kilograms, which is 22 kilograms more than the ZR8000 RR 129". The XF7000 SP 137" is 232 kilograms, which is 23 kilograms more than the XF8000 SP CC 141" (they will offer no two stroker with 137" track in Sweden). The T7000 CT 141" is 234 kilograms, which is 21 kilograms lighter than the T9000 CT 141".

I even installed a 4 wheel kit in my RMK as I don't like the lack of strength for off camber, tail landings with a 2 wheel kit or the lack of redundancy.

Just because mountain guys run 2-wheel kits for lighter weight and to make it easier to pull your sled on its side, doesn't mean its a good idea for trail use. There are even some sno-x'ers running 2-wheel kits. Whatever, I'll go with tried and true.

Thanks for the info! That makes the 129" Viper 504 lbs, the 137" Viper 511 lbs. That isn't too bad. As I recall, the '08 Nytro RTX was 514 lbs? I seem to remember the base model '08 Nytro being 520 lbs. The new base model Nytro is lighter but comes with junk shocks.

Or, if you know the weight of any Arctic Cat with the 800cc two stroker and the turbo four stroker, you know the SR Viper will be basically right between them two (22 kilograms / 48.5 pounds more than the 800 but 21 kilograms / 46.3 pounds less than the turbo). Give or take couple of grams for the difference in clutches, panels and stickers...
