Star kit in, tack still loose!

Hey everyone ! I'm just in a litter delemma and think I have it understood but would like an opinion or two as to where to go from here , last week I tore apart my 08 nytro rtx a installed a star suspensions 121 to 128 relocate kit, a backcountry x track , and whal Bros drivers , I reassembled everything and with the tensioner maxed out I barley have the new track tight!! , Is this because I switched to 8 tooth drivers? And if so what wheel size for the rears will fix it ??? I was thinking 8" but I obviously don't want to be guessing since idlers are not cheap after the 8" size

I wanted the extra clearance when I put the 1.75 lug track on, had a couple friends that left the 9 tooth on there and in a year or so they were replacing the exchanger from debris getting in between it , so I thought play it safe

8" wheel would also drop 1" below the rails. It's more than simply a larger wheel. You would need an offset axle to run them, you might be able to get one that doesn't offset so rear of wheel but would need machinist or someone to make it if the company's don't have one already.
 
Ok I understand the use of the offset axle but what I was asking is , is the 8" diameter wheel going to tension it up enough or not ?

Kid is right, when you get the offset axle for 8's it's offset in height and 1/2" to the front. It gains nothing. You need a custom axle that offsets only height and no offset to the front. Your better off going back to star and seeing if they can make longer extenders to accommodate the smaller drivers

how tight is the track right now? and you are running whal bros extrovert drivers, correct?

I run my track pretty loose and don't have issues, you may be ok just the way it is.
 
My relocate kit is in the tunnel and not a rail extension , so making a longer one is not going to work, I will just move the skid back even further , I know on my rmk I used the standard axle and 9" wheels in the back and never had a issue so just thought I'd ask

Adjusters are tensioned all the way and with a new track it's loose , as it wears in its just going to get worse for sure

I did this with my 08 RTX with the Star kit and the 8t drivers... the track will NOT go tight unless you modify the rails just a little bit with a dremel. I ground just a very little bit out just enough to add a couple turns on the adjusters is all that is needed. Do not go wild and grind out a bunch, just a little like 1/8 to 1/16th is all that is needed. Too much and you will weaken the rails.
 
Thank you I was just looking at it and trying to add it up in my head about how much I would gain by doing so , was also contiplating moving all the holes I just made another inch back lol, but I will definitely give this a try first

I did not change the gearing yet , wanted to see how it acted before doing anything to bring it back to stock gears, I know I'm going to loose top speed but what I've been doing with it since new hasn't been top speed runs , I like adventuring and the odd long distance off trail trips , I know I should have just bout an xtx but working with what I have and became very attached after no major breakdowns and over 20000 km on the sled

Just an update on this , I did get it to fit properly, I ground a 1/8" out of the rear of rails, and installed an idler shaft aprox 7 1/2" rearward of where the new front, skid bolt is now located and aprox 2 1/2" from the running board place , the reason for this is with the 8tooth drivers , the top of the front arm with the Teflon slides were almost touching and when in reverse caught the window of the track and would have just broken off , the shaft is out of a 01 skidoo summit.
