I have rode my new 2008 FX Nytro over the weekend for about 200 miles and not happy with the steering. I am coming off of riding two different Yamaha 700 Ventures and understand the machines are totally different, however, the steering is very tough especially in aggressive turns and more particular left hand turns. I have read the various post on adjusting the suspension and tried reducing the front psi to 60 from the factory set 75, however, it has not seemed to help.
I am having a very tough time keeping the machine on fully groomed our partially groomed trails and in fact sliding left when turning right and sliding right when turning left. One of my buddies was riding behind me today on one of our Ventures and made note of how poorly the machine was turning.
Does anyone have any advice?

Seems like new skis are the best thing for the 08's.
Decrease air to 55 psi. Work with the rear skid be decreasing the ride hieght on the center shock.

Skis probably aren't a bad idea, also pull up the limiter straps in the front of the skid one or two holes and maybe back off the spring tension on the center shock, this will give you more ski pressure and should reduce pushing through the corners. That being said, you still will probably have to change your riding style significantly to get the most out of your Nytro. They were never designed to be ridden like your Venture. They require much more rider input to work well (read: no sitting back on the seat and just gassing it through the corners, you really need to be braking hard into the corners throwing your weight forward, blipping the throttle through the turn, and then grabbing a handful of throttle when you exit, leaving all your buddies on sit-down's in the dust as you walk away over the moguls....
) I ride my Nytro much more like my dirt bike than any other snowmobile. I stand up a good portion of the time in the trails and only sit down to turn or on long straights. I talk to at least a couple guys every weekend who have nytros and complain about them being "tippy" or not cornering well, but when I follow them in the trails for a little while, I see why- very little rider input. Just my .02$, but I am sure others will chime in....

It's a tough steering sled, period. First, change the ski's to a less aggressive C&A like the ATS or TRAIL and machine 2.5 mms off the upper ball joints. If its still to tough, sell it and buy something else. Sorry but that's they way she is.

My 08 was light steering but would pick up the outside ski very easily while cornering - this was with the factory set up and I almost lost it a few times.
I came from a Rev 800 and I love the riding position on the Nytro, with my Rev I could fly into the corners and throttle steer it, but I agree about the tippy feeling on the Nytro. My dealer adjusted the suspension for more downward ski pressure, not exactly sure what they did as the tech was out when I picked it up, the sled corners much better and does not have the ski lift issue now - but man is it hard to steer, especially on super tight corners. I am not a wimp - 6-1 185 lbs and am in shape but man does this sled tire me out after a hard 100+ mile day on tight trails. I road my friends Apex today - much easier to steer and it felt much flatter in the corners. Any ideas?? I want a happy medium and am thinking of lengthening the strap and adjusting the pre-load on the center shock.

Exactly,You have to lean with this sled. If you get lazy in the corners you can't push it. Because if you push it with out leaning it will push back and you will end up in the oaks. Change the skis and ride it like you stole it!northerndoc said:Skis probably aren't a bad idea, also pull up the limiter straps in the front of the skid one or two holes and maybe back off the spring tension on the center shock, this will give you more ski pressure and should reduce pushing through the corners. I had luck with the aftermarket coupling blocks on my 08.
It took away some of the push in corners because the skis stayed on the snow more often.
I didn't have the time last year to try different skis.
I rather went with more aggressive carbides.
I have an 09 XTX now, but even it works best when you throw your wieght around.

I have had luck airing down the front shocks to 55 PSI. Anything above 60 and it pushes and bounces around.
Good Luck

Talked to guy last weekend about this. He turned the rubber around and put the long spacer on the inside. The rubber changed how the ski contacts the ground and the spacer moved the ski's out a little. he said his sled was much better afterward.

I will keep trying to adjust it but its not there yet, I was thinking of just going with an XTX, but since my Nytro is basically new I do not want to take a hit on re-sale at this time.
I find it very frustrating! My 03 REV 800 was a better handling sled in my opinion I went with the Nytro because I thought it would be a better handling sled and of course be more reliable etc with the four stroke. The magazines seem to like the new Doo four stroke on the REV XP chassis, I am not going to buy one yet but does anyone have a comparison to the Nytro that they can share as that seems to be Ski Doos target sled to compare with??

Thanks for responding to my request. Today I followed the recommendations of some of the people that responded and did the following:
1. dropped the limiter strap by two notches
2. adjusted the center shock approximately 1/4 " from the bottom and
3. lowered the front shock PSI to 55 and
4. use more body english.... yes I got the message!
All of the above helped and the machine turns much more to my liking. I think I need to try to got to 60 PSI tomorrow and see how that works.
The only thing different in todays ride from last week is the trails stiffened up a bit.
