Sorry to post so much today, but I would rather get this stuff done now....than when the riding is supposed to be going on.
I am replacing parts trying to get ride of the dreaded..."steering slop" in my 2009 Phazer RTX.
The original issue was that the handle bars moved side to side quite a bit without the skies moving.....you all know or have heard of that problem.
I installed the SBMS sloppy Steering fix and after a mod to their mod (drilled out bushings a little more....I was able to remove all the slop in the lower steering linkage that was there before I installed it.So, that is about half the problem solved.
The problem I have now is that there is still some slop in the "upper" steering linkage....mainly above the the Pivot Arm Assembly. It starts when I move the handlbars side to side and they move about an inch or so without anything in the lower steering moving. it appears to me that there may be some wear in this part:
8GC-23828-00-00 ROD, STEERING
I do have an OFT steering block yet to install, but I am wondering if that will really get rid of the rest of the slop?
Has anyone else had to replace this steering rod for wear?
Where is the rest of this side to side slop coming from?
Any advice or comments are appreciated. Thanks, guys.......

I am not sure how much slop the oft kit takes out. I think it does more for the up and down slop? I may be wrong on that.

I don't think that even with new parts from yamaha that it will get 100% tight. I have always had slop up top from the get go. There are just so many links and with the way it is designed I don't think we will be able to get all the slop out, unless someone else has come up with a solution.

i have the oft block. what it does is replace the stock plastic bushing with the billet piece. takes all movement out of upper steering shaft.

your stock plastic bushing could be worn badly. but 1" of movement it alot to remove. hope that is your cause.
