Hey guys, this is my first 4 stroke sled, and i have 3 months on it now, and im still not sold on it. It's an 09 Apex Mtx pretty much stock, but when i switch back to ride my old 2002 Mountain Max 800 big bore mod i don't want to get back on the 4 stroke, the power on the 4 stroke seems to spool up so slow compared to the mmax and the weight is very, very, very noticeable. Even the fuel economy is not terrible on the mmax and not great like i thought it would be on the Apex either, sorry to vent but im afraid im still not sold on this whole 4 stroke thing,
What are your thoughts on this guys?

I think that unless you put a turbo on it then its not really a good mountain sled. You mountain guys need lots of power and something light. The only way to make a 4 stroke feel light is to put a ton of power to it.

I agree that the stock four strokes are way better groomed trail sleds than mountain sleds. I love my Apex GT on groomed trails and would never go back to any of my former Yamaha two strokes.
I once rented a mountain RX1 in Montana and returned it the same day for a 700 RMK. The weight of the four stroke is so much more noticeable in the mountains.

I don't know why Yammi even bothers with the Apex Mountain. The chassis is best suited for trail riding.
In all fairness, you are comparing a mod 800 triple pushing 144" track to a stock sled pushing a 162"er. Also, that extra 100 lbs is, well, an extra 100lbs. Start modding....

then go back..
I have been smoked many times on my wifes attack...but then I usually pass the smoker when he stops for plugs or something else...yes they are pigs...but go to the gym and train :exc: ...not enough power for the lbs to power...so put a turbo or a sc
...when buying these sleds...we buy them cause everyone says how good they are..for dependabillity..and power...yes power..but they are mostly running with turbos or sc...so when you go from stock to a 2-smoke...what did you expect..no insult intended..I think when buying a 4-stroke..you should have it in your head..that you must mod it or just enjoy the dependabillity...
apex 162...attack 136...

always ringing its neck on your 2-smoke,you will be touching that motor soon, but not on a 4-stroke!!

This is where Yamaha really needs a charged 4 stroke....in the mountain segment. I never hear any guys that go out west on a trip and rent a Yamaha for mountain riding. It's always one of the other brands. I bet that would change if they built a turbo or super charged version for deep snow riding.

Must be the rider. I don't seem to notice the weight as I am going past my 2-S buddies when they are digging their sleds out or have the hood up wrenching on them.....

What you need is a FX nytro Mountain.. ALOT lighter and almost as much power
The apex is a better trail sled than anything else unless you turbo it..
