2016 RS Vector XTX 1.25 Lug wifes..2013 RS Vector LTX.. 2003 600 VMax Past Machines 3-2007 Attaks 1-2010 Vector LTX.. sorry no Stinkdoos or poo's cats.
Warm here. Mid 60's slush trails with ice. Figured take it for last ride. Stopped up a small mountain side view. It restarted after the view but it struggled to hold or get a strong idle and died within 2 or 3 seconds of starting. Tried to restart but it just sputtered. Kept trying no luck. Sputtered a few times. Gave it throttle and no sputter at all. Started towing it with the wifes Vector and after 20 minutes tried restarting and it fired right up. Ran like a bear back to the trail head..Tried restarting a few times back home and was fine.
I thought the starting idle when cold hasn't been real strong but not sure. I'm dreaming with the warm temps and slush and the sudden elevation climb and instant shut off at the top the Computer didn't have time to "acclimatize" and got screwed up???
My exhaust needs work. It doesn't backfire or is very loud. I covered the exhaust with rags and it died down but didn't stall and I couldn't hear any bad leaks. Would an exhaust leak influence starting?
New plugs 2 k miles ago. 1st time in 8k miles it wouldn't start ever in any temps..
Were to start??????

Almost sounds like something got wet in the electrikery of it all. With all the slush it's possible.

No signs before that. I wonder if the heat coming off the motor. No codes but maybe got good and warm and got to one of the senors after it coold down while towing it fired right up.
I know some have flooded it moving it from a warm outside to cold outside before. The EU gets confused I think.
I'm wondering now if the FI system needs a "tuning" if there is such a thing for it. Or does the EU adjust for all conditions.

I was thinking more along the lines of condensation internally.

The times that I had similar scenarios with my Apex it was exhaust donuts. Could be a bad TPS and I had thought that about mine, but after changing donuts problem was gone.

How does the Donuts affect the idle/starting? I just got the copper donuts today actually. Also I will try to find if any codes are in the system. I will change Donuts, plugs, fresh fuel, etc. and take it from there.
I would assume the valves, engine are fine since it runs so smooth and like it was when new 5 years ago.

How old is the battray.

Battery is new..just replaced it last month only because I put in a ytx 20 for extra amps in case I have to use my Warn XT2500 portable someday.
I have tried it a few times between yester day and today and it starts right up.

other bthan being warm out, sounds textbook fuel pump relay. pump wasn't running. then it was later. always listen to the pump cycle before starting

Red/White
Blue/Red

I have been searching and reading alot of posts about "sputtering" non starting, etc. and have gotten some good ideas..No snow here now. When I tear it down for donuts I'll go threw it and do some electricial and fuel tank work/ checking as well.
It has been starting fine since. I will have to wait to get it good and warmed up on a run next season to see if engine heat or warmth has an affect.. It'll be a long summer.
