I know this has been discussed to death but my question is this At the beginning of the year I was running 1.450 Woody mega-bites and after every trip there were between 3 and as much as 8 broke off and this isn't including the ones that were bent which really aren't doing much as bent as they were. So I replaced them with 1.375 woody golddiggers and not one has broke or bent. I know I'm not getting the same penetration but if the studs are breakin (1.450) every trip I'm probably getting better traction with more studs. Also another point is I'm studded throughout the whole track and the outside studs break more often and the middle studs bend moe often but there has been breakage in both. Any ideas? I know alot has been debated about this but since the season is coming to a close I'm wondering what to do to get my sled ready for next year. I have thought of running the 1.450 in the center and the 1.375 on the outside but that would probably throw things off or would it? Your thoughts? Thanks Mark

use all the same studs throughout...also...make sure you use same overall height...
I recommend tall nuts and not to use round backers....double backers are nice for sure...and if you run in the outside row..run every other outside row

I run 1.450 megabites with the long nuts in a 1 " track and have never had one bend or break off.

Hacksaw and we were literally an 1/8 mile from putting them away for the year and it exploded at 100 mph. I have never liked camoplast as every one I have owned has had durability problems. This time I think that I may try the kimpex and also strongly considering extending to a 136 " in preparation for a SC.

I just installed 192 Woodys 1.450 stainless with the tall nuts. Only ran it one day so far for about 100miles. Hooks up great and nothing bent or broken so far. I did appear to lose a bit o the top end but my belt is getting tired so I'll have to wait to next season to really check it out. By then I 'l have also dropped one tooth so that should make up for the loss.

Although there is some difference in the "installed" length from one brand to another, I am running 144 Fast Trac Top Gun II 1.375" both in the middle and every other row on the outsides.
With the stock track these studs stick out about 3/8" beyond the lugs. I have a few minor scrapes on the muffler brace but no bent studs or pull outs after 1500 hard miles that included plenty of rocks and such.
Longer is not necessarily better. IMO anything much over 3/8" beyond the lugs is going to cause the studs to "fold over" from the increased leverage and consequently not bite as good. The extra leverage will also increase your risk of bent studs and "pull outs".
I can't say enough good things about the Fast Trac Top Gun II studs and their polymer backers. My studs still look almost new (no broken tips). The backers have a few scratches & scrapes but I have never cracked, bent, or lost one in the last 5 sleds that I have run them.
The round polymer backers are the way to go IMO. I do not like square backers because they will always get slightly turned and I am anal about things looking perfect. I also feel that the square backers (especially aluminum) are more likely to cut into the track than a round backer.
