Getting ready to stud a storm track to go on my dads Sidewinder. Current plan is to go with 1.740 Megabites in a pattern down the center with singles and doubles. (144) If that isn't enough, we will add one single on the outside of every other row for 192.
That seems like the logical stud choice to me but wondering what others think. He just has protectors in the rear... No full length.

I used 1575 megabites on my Storm 150. Those numbers are not the length of the stud they are a series number. 1575 is 1.978 long

It would make too much sense to have the number reflect the actual length lol...I used 1575 megabites on my Storm 150. Those numbers are not the length of the stud they are a series number. 1575 is 1.978 long

The 1575's are what I would run in a 1.25 track... Not long enough to me for the 1.5 track. I know it isn't the overall length and agree... I wish they all would just list them as overall length to make it easier to compare. I was thinking the 1740's would be similar to between a 1450 and 1575 in a 1.25 track. I think pretty ideal but wondering what others think.
Staggs - Did you think the 1.575's hooked up decent?

The 1740 megabites will work good for sure. If you have a tune and run it aggressively 192 would be better. Triggers in a 1860 work awesome if you want to really hook it up but full STM protectors are a must at that length and to be honest should be installed for the 1740's too. I have 240 1860 triggers in my stage 4 trail sled with a storm track and full stm protectors and nothing but miles of smiles. If you just want to stud for safety for braking and turns on icy trails 1575 and 1630 studs will provide a degree of safety for sure but for real traction, 1740 or longer are needed and with added HP 192 minimum quantity would be needed.
Hope this helps...

He does have a tune but doesn't ride real hard. I have seen a lot of guys running 1630 in the 1.25 tracks with just rear protectors without issue as long as they keep the track tight. This would essentially be a little shorter to the tunnel overall so I was thinking he'd be fine. I put full length STM's on mine but I didn't like how close the protector was to the track. Any ballooning and I assume you'd be losing MPH. With the 1.5 track they have to be really close to rubbing. Where I worry with the 1740 or 1860 is the front. No protection there and you are getting closer than I would like at that length. @68gmc - Have you checked your front cooler? Curious if you have any marks.

No Mark's in the front coolers of our 2 sleds with 1860 triggers. Only way they will hit the front cooler is if the track is so loose that the drive axle slips on the track. As long as you keep proper tension on the track there will be no issues! The 1860's will tag the top vents on the tunnel without the front stm protectors though so keep that in mind.

Fine for me, I went to to 1.5 track because I needed more track for the snow conditions I've been riding in lately. For what I've been riding 4 inch studs wouldn't make a difference. I'm just studded for the occasional icy spot and such. If I was riding hardpack trails where studs matter more I never would've gone to a 1.5 trackThe 1575's are what I would run in a 1.25 track...
