What does everyone do with their Nytro for the summer months? What are the best things to do with the sled before it is placed into storage? What do you do with the sled while it's in storage?

I was wondering the same thing, since I got my first sled a few months ago (after borrowing a friends for many years). I have heard to run fuel stabilizer thru the system by adding to the gas. Lift the back end of the sled up to take pressure off the track and rear shocks. Run a trickle charger on your battery, or start it up every month-- you don't want the battery to die. I've also heard that some guys take the drive belt off. Again, I'm no expert but this is what I've been told by my friends that are way more experienced sledders than myself. Hope this helps.

Change your oil in the engine and chaincase. Along with all the other items your friends told you. Also grease chassis, Clean entire sled, make sure you just put your battery on a battery tender or maintainer not a charger as you may overcharge it. Cover it up for the summer and you will be already to go for next winter.

whatever makes you happy go with it. Every one has a different idea of how to store their sled.

i just run stabilizer through the system and let it set till winter comes back around then get it ready. I dont understand changing the oil now bc its just going to be setting anyways. so why put new oil in to just let it set around. And why put the sled in the air? You dont put a sports car on jack stands when your not using it! besides if you lift just the front end up to tack pressure of the track and shocks all the weight is being transfered up to the front suspension.

+1 on the front suspension strain...I'm just running marine stabil through mine and starting it up for a few mins every month or so...

x2 everyone has their own way.

I change the oil and filter in the spring, my dealer told me when I bought the sled to change the oil in the spring. His reason was some sort of acids that appear in the oil alter a season of riding. The only problem I can see is moisture, but the little amount of moisture will get boiled away very fast once you start the sled up. Run stabilizer, pull the plugs and spray a vary little bit of fogging oil in there. Replace plugs and take the battery out, cover the sled with an old bed sheet and charge the battery once a month or use a tender.

I take some weight off the front and back suspension.

I start it up in the fall and wait for the snow.

ok that's what I figured...I've ridden yamaha's all my life but this is my first four stroke/fuel injected sled.. Thanks for the info!

I also pull the clutches off clean them and leave them apart as in don't put springs back in then leave them on bench for summer

take clutches off, good powerwash, oil change, grease, and wd 40 bath on all metal parts to prevent corrosion. my 08 w/ 5000 mi on it looks brand new still. gonna polish the tunnel this spring i think and got some suspension maintenence to do. sucks the season is over for me...

I was always told with a motorcycle to change oil in the spring. They gave me a good reason for it but I can't remember.

Don't forget steel wool or screen in the exhaust pipe to keep critters out.

One of the reasons we recommend changing oil in a harley before storing it is because oil can become acidic after use and actually become corrosive on the engine cases. Even though they are dry sump engines like the sleds there is always a few ounces of oil in the bottom of the engine. I look at it this way, I like to put them away cleaned and ready to ride when you get that first unexpected snow storm, instead of trying to get your sled ready at the last minuet.

i personally empty ALL fluids including gas and oil then run for 5 mins until sled shuts off. take the skis and exaughst off and polish em up over summer. then in winter i hook it up to the back of the truck and tow it down to yamaha and complain because it wont start and someone stole my skis.

You empty your oil/gas then run till it shuts itself off? typo?
