Not really, I'm just trying to get a response to my post from before about summit compared to apex. I did read the post on chronic apex problem so you need not reply to that part of the question. And I have an attak, so I know quality is better than other brands. But sure wish someone has a comparison to share about climbing and boondocking, deep snow and such. Thanks, thedutchman

Honestly... If i were going to get a moutain sled it wouldnt be a yamaha..
Dont get me wrong.. I love yamaha.. and im not a moutain rider,, but i have started doing some off trailling from time to time..
If i wasnted a REALLY good moutain sled i buy a M7 or King Kat
I love my 4 stroke.. but it is definitly heavier than most 2 strokes by ALOT.. and you definitly feel it in the deap snow..
but you should know that if you have an attack

Yes your right about the weight, I was hoping someone would tell me the performace was'nt much different, because the quality and feel of the Yamaha 4 stroke is so great

From what ive read on other sites.. the 1000 gade is about equal to a apex moutain power wise on the snow..
ya the 1000 gade makes more power but it doesnt get that much more hp to the track than the apex does..

apex mt
As I just posted in your other thread I may as well post here to. The Apex is not hard to handle or boondock at all. Now if you have not ridden much in the mountains then the heavier sled will not be as nice, because you will be stuck. It all comes down to how many times. I have rode my enough to know what it will do. You just need some time on it. I have also rode the mighty M7. It will also get stuck, they all take time to get used to. Stuck 20 times in a day on a M7 will be just as bad as 5 times on a apex. it just takes some seat time. I would not own one if given to me. The fit and finish and quality of ride are worth the extra weight. It is amazing how on these forums everyone wh doesn't own a apex degrades them. Then in the sentence they all say how much fun it is to boondock and have some challenge on a hill where the turbo's have no challenge. To me what is the difference as to where the challenge is hillclimbing or boondocking. It just takes a different perspective or line. With that being said I do think all the manufatcurers make a decnt sled now versus 10 years ago.

Pick up or order the latest issue of SnoWest magazine. The current issue has the Deep Powder Challenge. It also has a good write up on the phazer mtn lite. The basic consensus was that the skidoo's were in the top spots. Surprisingly the 800 climbed better than the 1000 in most cases. The Apex and Mtn vector were predictably near the end of the list. The apex ran very closely with the M7 and both were outmuscled by the bigger two stroke iron. Considering the apex weighed in at 628 lbs dry, 72 lbs heavier than the 1000 and 137 lbs more than the 800, it did very well. This test really doesn't take into account boondocking nor hardpack drag runs. That being said if you value 4 stroke qualities, the apex's advantages definitely outweigh the competition.

Beat the laws of physics and get a turbo in the mountain Apex! Why? because we can!

I have an Apex mtn. and ride with pol 900 151 and skidoo 800 144. If they had more track they could probably do more than me but all in all the apex is right there with them! It might be heavier but you do not feel it in the deep powder! I can manuever as easily if not better than they can! why is weight such an issue? When I got stuck in 4' of fresh powder we all thought son of a b@&tch! When it came down to it just pull on the skie and it pops right out! I must admit I am 230# so I usually do the pulling and let my 130# cousin hit the throttle! needless to say it feels as stuck as my light weight 2 stroke counterparts! the 130# guy outclimbs all of us on his 900 poo but put him on any sled and he can go further up the hill but we all can play in the fluff and it is dead even! I pull my own tank out and let my friends do the throttle! At the end of the day I am not any more tired than they are! The weight can only be seen when it comes to highmarking against 151" 900 poo but again he weighs in at 130#

I was just out riding with a bunch of 900 cats a 900 Polaris and a few pooh 800s with a little clutching the Apex is right in the mix, it has the best power but the weight evens things out in the steep. I also run a 04 RX1 a good 80 pounds lighter than stock and it is right there to, hags right with the 900 cat with reeds and single pipe+can in the steep and out runs it anywhere else. I would love to build a super-light Apex with a 151 * 16 * 2.5 track.
But really love the light mod RX1 (will be boosted this summer)

the weight issue.............stupid
I have had it with all the weight issues, lets go out on a limb here and say that a Summit 1000 weighs 50lbs less then an Apex mountain, "which it doesn't", lets also say that the added weight of the fuel is the same "which it wont be, as the Summit holds about 8 litres more = 12- 14 lbs abvove the yamaha". We will also then say that the riders weigh the same roughly 200 lbs. Also add the weight of the gear(helmet, suit boots, avalanche stuff), about 30lbs. So the math goes as follows
Dry weight (real world) 650 lbs
fuel 40 litres 70 lbs
rider 200 lbs
gear 30 lbs
TOTAL weight while riding 950lbs, my point being even if you were retarded and thought a summit 1000 weighed 50lbs less then an Apex that would mean a 5% total weight reduction in your mountain riding experience, so dont try and tell me it would make a huge difference! Cmon. Instead of spending $10000 trying to lighten up your two stroke, buy a four stroke, turbo it and duble you oppostions' power to weight ratio. Now that you can feel!!!!!!

WELL SAID, fit and finish is Yamaha, engineering is yamaha, ride quality is Yamaha and the weight issue is really quite subjective! I can't see myself spending 11000.00 on a 2 smoke Skidoo no matter what the size , package etc., When I could buy the better quality Yamaha for the same price and get A LOT more enginuity and quality for my money......makes know sense. You want a lighter sled........ eat less. You want dependability and quality, buy a Yamaha, drop 30 lbs and then your the same as the mighty 1000 DOO-DOO......probably less. If you want a highmarker and nothing more buy the 07' Cat M1000 and don't complain about your body aches later when you have to ride the trail to get to the steep and deep.

I road a stock apex almost all season and it climbed pretty good kept up with some 900's but couldnt climb as high as the 1000 doo. but know i have a turboed apex running 265 hp and theres no way a 100 can even think of goign where i can. The apex also boon docks liek a dream .my sled witll be 40 or 50 lbs lighter this comign season and i think i will notice.a diffrence,

Nothing compares to the Power and reliability of the Turboed Yamaha motors. I am 6'7" & 340lbs in gear and there is not a sled that can touch my Turbo unless it is another Yamaha Turbo where I ride.
I don't have to work on my sled, I just put good gas in and ride. 3,500 miles Turboed, 18lbs boost 290hp with no extra head gaskets, no turbo pistons, just 114 octane mixed 50/50 with 92 and ride.
I love it and this sled does not care how big you are it will kick you butt if your not in shape and ready for serious POWER.
