I have an Autometer temp gauge I want to install on my nytro. Where would the probe get screwed into on the motor?

I am not familiar with Autometer but if it is a probe that gets screwed into a fitting which goes into the coolant line, they say the best place is to tap into the rad hose that runs just above your spark plugs. Best access is to take plastic panels off, seat off, pull tank back slightly, etc..

I put the sender in the t-stat housing. Opposite side from the stock one.

I made an inline fitting to go in the hose between the T-Stat housing and the radiator, similar to Ulmer's.
Warning:
** DO NOT ** tap into the blue/white wire on the starter relay plug for power !!
I did - it cost me a starter and a major project to change it, after 1 50 mile ride.
Use the empty accessory slot in the fuse box for power.

Thanks for the help. I have the mountain performance tunnel coolers on the way. I figured it would be a good idea to make sure it gets warm enough.

I tapped in there according to Ulmers instructions from another post. Put a small online fuse, never had a problem. What went wrong with yours? Did you have a fuse online? I have an Autometer gauge with a small light bulb in it. The explanation I got from Grizztracks was that the gauge drew enough current to hold the starter relay closed after the key returned to the run position. So the starter was running all the time the engine was running, and welded itself solid. Yes I had an inline fuse.
Maybe Ulmer's unit draws less current because it's only charging a micro battery. I don't know, but you might want to rewire just in case. Changing the starter is not fun.

Here was my observation. With the 07 Attak, I run consistently 165 F with the added rear cooler. When I stop and talk and leave it running, it takes a few minutes to climb to 175 or more. With the 09 XTX with a mtn. cooler, it runs fairly consistent at 166 F but climbs rapidly to 190 plus when you introduce anything other than normal riding. If those mountain performance coolers are the ones that run on each side, I have heard that with the increased cooling you may run at 160 or so, which I would think is no problem, plus you would get the added benefit of slower temperature rise which our Nytro appears to need.
