The times they are a changin!

It really wasn't that long ago that when you told someone you rode an
RX-1 you got an earful of what a pig of a sled it was. The power to weight numbers aren't pretty, they're tippy in corners, it still has that same old heavy Proaction suspension, you'd better know a wrecker driver if you ever get that dang thing stuck!

Now, everytime I read about how well our beloved behemoth of a machine is doing in improptu and sanctioned races everywhere across the snowbelt (sometimes against down right "dainty" competion) it does my heart good!

I wonder if you flatland fellers can even imagine what it was like for us guys with MOUNTAIN RX-1s! Oh Man! They maligned us with great joy on what a horribly heavy pig the RX-1 was. They made us haul their extra fuel and parts. Those were the dark days my friends.

Fast forward to 2005. We have new suspensions, a lightweight companion and magazine reviews that are actually pretty good.

In drag racing there is nothing that can touch a turboed RX-1.

In the mountains it's the same result.

The naysayers are beginning to pull them selves up from the floor after their latest butt whooping and take notice.

I can hear them now "Hey, lookee there Poo, that there fat chick can sure dance! Yah Doo, last year she was stepping all over here own toes and now she can cut a side hill like nobody's business! She must have been taking dancing lessons".

Have the rest of you begin to notice a difference in the way you are beginning to be treated by brand loyal owners of other brands? One test ride is usually all it takes to shut them up (in my experience).

Live on RX-1! Heck fat chicks need love too

I absolutely hated the hawg when I bought it, it was completely useless in the powder or climbing, and now after a new tunnel, skis, rear suspension, track, and exhaust its great. I like it and have been a yamaha fan for years, just hate the amount of money that has to be spent to be even close to competetive.

Hey, KBXSRX it kind of sounds like my beloved MSRX.

It too needed a whole lotta love before it would dance! Am I beginning to see a trend here?

OK, this is only my 3rd season riding. The first 2 years I rode a buddies extra vmax's. I loved the vmaxs, very predictable and warm. I seen a RX1 in Paradise red and silver le/03. Most beautiful things i'd ever seen. I got lucky while at White Star auction and bought mine for 4500 w/400 miles on it. I hated it, very tippy and cold. I was looking to trade it for a new viper until I broke the skid and replaced it with the M10. I've done every mod on this site except the turbo and the 13mm swaybar, mine is 11mm. I love my sled. At first I got rude comments and stares, it seems now that the respect has risen, but i've not made to the UP yet this season. So we will see. I can't wait until I finally get it done for this season, and to post pictures to this site. I know I will get some looks and comments in the UP this season, cos it will be one bad MOFO.

Actually, I prefer fat chicks.

I have morals, they have to be white and weigh less than I do.

RX Dave, those aren't "morals" you are speaking of in your post. The acid test for woman od which you speak are commonly called "standards".

I too had "standards" when I was dating. The one I remember the most was "never date a girl who can kick your a$$".
I ended up marrying a girl that is 5 feet tall and 96 pounds. She's still 96 pounds 15 years later. :D

What was this post about anyway?- RESPECT

The original RX-1 in stock form was probably nothing to write home about. BUT through the diligence of those on this site primarily,it continues to get better every year.
I still remember Yamaha's list of improvements for the 04 RX-1. Heck, I knew right then that they have been lurking on this site.
Guys, we have way more input on here than we'll probably ever know. let's keep this site clean and free from bashing and continue to offer a constructive forum to discuss ways to improve the RX-1.
Yamaha is far more likely to harvest our ideas if we can prove our theories through actual testing and the sharing of information than through the bashing exhibited on some of the other snowmobile sites.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T (man I hate that song but it keeps playing in my head)

I think the RESPECT you speak of is more with the 05 sleds than the 03 sleds...

The 05s are well tuned compared to the 03s.. The 04 warrior was the best riding sled yamaha had to date UNTIL the 05 rx-1 and Vector came out!

I agree slowly but surely Yamaha sleds are making a come back..

My arctic cat buddy who rides a 05 F7 said the new Rx-1 is CADDILAC smooth.. (ride)

last season people asked about them and complimented them, but there was also a handful of people who loved to put it down as being a fat lady and how their 800 would beat it.

Racing an 800 in front of people sure shuts them up. When you actually let people ride them, they comment on how good of power it has and how different the power is from their 2 stroke. 2 Guys were riding with me 2 weeks ago that had Brand new Summit 800HO's with 144's. They are really good riders, and they LOVED the RX-1's.

The good thing is, every person i come along says "are these turbo's, because a turbo RX-1 is probably the best thing you can get for the mountains and deep snow"

Yes Sir, SoCORX-1, it's starting to sink in, isn't it. All it takes is to watch any of the latest extreme snowmobile videos and watch the RX-1 mountains (with turbos of course) absolutely suck the headlights out of 1500cc highly modified two strokes, again and again!

There are those out there that can not stand to be beaten. I think it's time for them to face reality and jump to a Mach Z or an RX-1 turbo. Time will tell how well the new 1000 twin will hold up but I think the reliabilty and longevity of the RX-1 motor has converted a lot of nay sayers already.

There is no comparison between an 03 and the 05. This 05 is great, relitivly minor adnustments to be made to make it spot on compared to vrtually all the suspension and handling componants on the 03. I spent thousands on it and never was happy. It sucked wo bad I bought a REV... which I traded on the 05 RX1. I'm loving this thing!!!!
