...what kind of temps do you see?

At what temp does the idiot light supposedly come on on the dash?

At what temp does the engine shut off if left idling?

I just finished an install of a Cyberdyne gauge and gave it a test run. I think I have cured my overheating woes by removing the tunnel protectors.

On ice (I mean lake ice with a 1/2" crust snow) I was running 212-215 F.

On hard pack snow (and I real mean hardpack, crusty, barely leaving a mark I was running 205-209 F.

On 24 hour old groom trail with loose, suggary snow, I was running 185-195 F.

When left to idle at the end of my ride, it seems the light came on at 230 F based on my gauge. I got tired of waiting for it to cut out on its own at 244 F and turned it off.

Just trying to get a feel for where this gauge is in relation to reality. Any feedback appreciated.

Mine runs around 170 on good trails
Fan kicks on at 195 shuts off at 180
i never let i go over 200
if it gets over 195 i will find snow to cool it down

i have never let it idle long enough to shut down
i think placement of the temp gauge makes a big difference on the reading that you get also

Where do you have your's placed?

I have mine in the hose between the thermostat and the radiator, just because it was the easiest to get at.

I wonder why mine reads so high/runs so hot?

I have a digital Cyberdyne gauge and have the sensor installed in the same place as you.

The more I think about it the more I realize how awful the conditions were yesterday. The little bit of what I considered decent really was still garbage and when I was in that as I said I was dipping into the low 180s.

If anyone else has a read on when I should be expecting to see the yellow light on the stock dash, I would appreciate it.

Light comes on at about 210 (I have used the digital gauges we sell and also a Stewart Warner gauge). Fan comes on around 195 on both. The sled will not shut down due to temp unless the sled is simply sitting there and idling.

The this cyberdyne gauge I have is well off.

Fan comes on at 210, light at about 230 and sitting there idling I gave up waiting at 244. So I'm guessing this is reading 15+ degrees high by the sounds of it or my sled is running damn hot.

dumb question prolly but is your fan kickin on maybe that is why your temp is so high

I'm not following your question.

Yes, my fan is coming at at 210 according to the gauge I just installed. Are you suggesting that the fan blowing on the gauge is giving me a higher reading?

I'm not sure. I installed the splice where Ulmer suggests, right behind the fan and I do have a trail tank install which cuts down the space and no addition ventillation added in the area so yes that air is probably hot but I assume the temp is coming from the tip of the sender in the coolant, not the air temperature around the outside of it.

Good to know. So either my gauge is well off or my sled is running way to hot. I'll caulk it up to conditions for now and see the next time I get out.
