Hi All
2007 RS Venture back at the dealer. 20p.s.i., 220p.s.i., 60p.s.i., respectively. I've had it in before and complained about hard starting, and poor mileage. The first time they synced the carbs. All seemed o.k. for a couple of days. The sled never ran right since it's last oil change. I think the dealer put in too much oil.
Since the oil change at Arnprior Sportland, performance has been way down, mileage way down, hard starting etc. I have also put 3500miles on it since the oil change. It had been getting worse every time I used it. Can too much oil cause it to carbon-up enough to drop my compression as stated above, over this period of time? :o|

oil

If the oil level is way to high, it would probably get pushed into airbox through breather and then sucked through your carbs ,it would probale smoke alot because it is burning the oil through intake, could cause rings to get stuck over a period of time, Yamaha makes some stuff called ring free that is used in marine and cycle 4 strokes real good stuff, confirm u have correct oil level and run some ring free in your gas and see what happens, worth a try :-o

Roger, glad to see you tracked down the source of your problems.
i can see why you were dissappointed in your sled. Did you buy it new?
Are you under warranty,?

Yes, I bought the sled brand new. So far, Yamaha keeps saying "Not covered under warranty" Problems so far are - leaky exhaust -warranty.
- carbs out of sync - no warranty. - idler wheels shot - no warranty.
- clutch parts worn - no warranty. - carbon build-up - I'll find out when I pick up my sled, so far it doesn't sound good. Their saying "maybe choke on too long, or poor fuel." Funny thing, I snowmobile with 3 other 120h.p. Yamahas, and absolutely no issues. I am starting to believe mine was built on a Friday, and Yamaha doesn't want to warranty it.
P.S. Oil changes done by dealer.
P.S.S. This sled comes with a 2 year warranty that expires January 2009. I have no idea what the 2nd year warranty covers, let alone the first year.

I believe the oil was to high, as I could smell engine oil when I was driving it hard. I drive it hard enough to know that carbon build-up didn't happen by the way I drive. I also know that it didn't happen by idling to long or bad gas. The other 120h.p. Yamaha's I snowmobile haven't had any issues.

You're down to 20 and 60 psi in 2 cylinders??? YIKES!!!! I'll be interested to hear how Yamaha treats you on this one! ANY, and I mean ANY other brand would warranty this loss on cylinder compression as long as there was no signs of abnormal abuse.

As bulletproof as the 3 cyls have been, I'd think Yami would want to see the engine w/o tearing it apart.

FWIW - I looked in my YES warranty details and loss of compression due to ring and/or piston wear IS NOT covered......they call it "normal wear".

Why on earth did I buy the thing!!!! #$%&* :o|

I don't buy extended warranties. They are selling them because they make more money than they payout. I'll keep my money and take my chances. Besides there are many wear an tear items on a snowmobile that aren't covered under any warranty as illustrated above.

Hopping on a new sled and riding it should NOT void a warranty. Normal wear at 50,000 miles maybe, not 1000 or so.

How many miles?

NO one has asked...how many miles do you have on this sled? Did you do anything that would be considered abusive to it? Riding in muddy water? Dirty conditions??

All the problems started after Arnprior Sportland touched my sled. I brought it to them, still under its first year warranty, for a bumper to bumper inspection, lube, oil, and filter. $136.97 bill for an oil change and the service manager, Bruce, says all is fine under warranty, nothing needs replacing. The sled had 2700miles on it. I then went on a snowmobile trip and put on 1900miles. During this trip, starting was horrible and mileage was way down. Also during the trip, I found out that the dealer I bought the sled from, has re-opened his doors. He got tired of all the B.S. and closed his doors. He changed his mind, and re-opened.
I brought it to my dealer, and they found worn idlers, worn clutch, and carbs way out of sync. Wouldn't a bumper to bumper inspection, 2 weeks earlier, have found these problems? That dealer, Arnprior Sportland, denies checking it over for a bumper to bumper inspection, and Yamaha Canada is siding with that dealer. $400 for carb sync and clutch parts. No warranty. Exhaust gaskets done also at 4600miles. These were changed under warranty.
So, my real dealer has my sled again. I had previously complained about an engine oil smell, they said chaincase was o.k., no leaks. This time I told him again that it was engine oil smell, when driving hard, not chaincase smell. I know the engine oil is a bit high. They checked compression, and it was way down. They got the top off, and the valves are too tight. Now they have to take the top apart to see if it is full of carbon or not. Their call to Yamaha says first thing that it may be, is due to poor gas, or choke on to long. I snowmobile with other 4sstrokes and lots of 2 strokes. No one else has any problems. No Warranty. W.T.F. is this. If it is full of carbon, no warranty.

What is Yamahas problem. I have never ever had to pay for anything when the sled was under warranty. This is my second Yamaha. The first one never had a problem under warranty, so I didn't know how they teated a sled which was under warranty. Every other sled had problems, blown engines, worn parts, defective parts, broken suspension parts, ripped track, even a cold seizure, and I never paid a penny for any repairs. This sled came with a 2 year warranty, right from Yamaha, no extra charge. So far only exhaust gaskets were covered. I have never changed exhaust gaskets in my life either.

This is also the first time in my life that I don't have my sled for a weekend, and here I have a 4 day weekend, because of Easter.

20 years, 10 sleds, 100000miles, and this piece of cr.. is the only thing that has ever left me without a sled for the weekend, and nothing covered under warranty. I guess Yamaha wants you to take the engine apart everyday, to see if there is carbon buildup. I guess you have to keep it in a heated garage, so you don't use the choke to start it.

Anyone know a good lawyer that will beat Yamaha in court?

P.S. This sled has only ever been on a groomed trail, in Ontario. It has never been raced. It has never seen 100mph, because it doesn't go that fast. I have tried maybe 10 times, the fasted was 95mph, but since the infamous oil change, 70-80mph is the fastest it will go.

What is the explanation for your cylinder compression being so low in 2 cylinders??

You might want to move this post to the general area to get a little more input from the brains on this site,.
the RS forum is somewhat limited in responses.

The dealer hasn't gotten that deep into it yet. Will keep everyone posted.
