guys,

i just re-assembled my chaincase on my sled
2007 apex rtx with reverse and it seems really tight.
I can't roll the driveshaft, rotor, or secondary by hand....I can get a rocking motion out of the secondary and rotor, but I can't budge the driveshaft.
I have not installed the skid yet, so I am just trying to rotate it by hand.
I have loosened the tensior figuring that finger tight might be too tight.
I couldn't believe how tight the bolts and nuts were that were securing the sprockets and chain when i took it apart....so I put everything back together to the same tension/torque.
I did use an online guide to make sure I got all the parts (shims, spacers) back where they belong.

am I just not trying hard enough?.....

how much oil goes back into the chaincase?
also how much motor oil does the engine take after an oil and filter change?

thanks

I thought the reverse models only took 4.5oz? However that may be for refills not from complete disassembly.

With locknut loose on tensioner bolt, back bolt out a couple of turns, then turn in to finger tight. Back off 1/4 turn from that point, and tighten the jam nut while holding the bolt to prevent it from turning/blowing your adjustment/forcing you to start over again... :^)

Same thing happened to me last fall. I swore I had everything back together correctly, but after review I found that I had put the flanged looking spacer in backwards. Part #77 on the microfiche, I think. I can't recall exactly how I had it wrong, but once I changed it, all was well. I could easily spin things by hand after that.

sounds like you assembled it wrong, you should be able to turn it easily unless the track is hung up under sled if you have skid out.??

lots of parts in these case,be sure you got it right...just got mine back together today and its always interesting...lol

fill gear oil to STANDARD line always(Rev & no Rev)

Dan

now I feel like a dumba$$ for asking about the oil......like I always say open your eyes before you open you effing mouth.

I thought i had everything correct too......I printed the fiche from Ronnies website to make sure I had it right.
i know which part #77 you are talking about.....maybe the fiche was wrong or i just did it backwards.
i will re-check my work......damn I spent alot of time trying to get everthing correct with all those darn spacers and collars.

thanks everyone.

i also stretched mine to a 144" this year.

dido i made the same mistake switch directions and it turns easy

yep mee too.... fortunately the second time i blame on the wobbly pops.... but was quickly fixed the next morn.... the spacers need to be perfect!

actually, i was so tired of the CK skid, that last year I installed a ZR skid from a Cat......then I threw a stud into heat exchanger at end of season. sooooooo I had to buy a track anyway (go big or go home) I got the tracks USA rail extensions for the ZR and they are the tipped up style so it will still handle like a shorty on the trail.
i am waiting on powder coating for the tunnel extension and bumper.......the rails were supposed to be too. I dropped it off over a month ago and nothing was done. so i took the rails to at least get that portion done.
