how many ft/pds of torque do you tighten the main bolt on the secondary clutch on the apex gt ?

About as much as it takes to open a twist top beer.

The torque spec is 46 ft-lb. But I've noticed Yamaha's torque specs for just about everything are double than what Cat specifies for similar bolts and items. Then again, I've never had a Yammi bolt back out on me. Can't say the same for bolts on my Cats.

wow - 46 lb does seem high - most all my other sleds were like 15-20 lbs
I guess they like things tight !
thanks

If you would like, I can send you the Apex PDF manual which shows the parts diagrams and torque specs. Just PM me with your email addy. Another TY member sent it to me.

this is a floating secondary...i have never put that much force on mine and i have mine on n off all the time.
floating clutch doesnt have any pressure on the bolt really,so this seems extreme.
JMO...i guess the shop manual knows best.

I don't put that much torque on mine either. I have torqued it to that level before, but generally I just tighten the secondary bolt to the normal level I have used on all of my sleds in the past which is probably close to 20 ft-lbs.
i have tightened mine to the recomended 46ft lbs the last 2 seasons with no trouble.

That's good advice, but i'd say it's more like a jar of pickles.

I set mine today at a nice rounded 40ft/pd - sounds like from all the responses it isn't a real critical torque setting on our sleds

One thing to remember: If the threads are lubricated, you reduce the torque by 20%. They do not say this in the manuals. But, engineering specifications for threaded fasteners call for this. It becomes critically important to consider this when you are told to tighten bolts at the upper end of their capability.

NICE someone else that knows about the 20% lubed thread rule.
