i was just wondering if theres anything i should know before attempting this.. i have the 08 mtx and want to use it as an crossover more than a mountian machine..by trimming the tack and not getting every lug the exact same height will this affect the ride of the machine or the balnce of the track? Also i does anyone know if a 151" track will fit on the mtx and what kind of mods would be involved if i choose to go this route?

Instead of trimming the track, why not tie off the bumper and run the sled on pavement, essentially burning down the rubber lugs? Much simpler too.

I've seen some videos on Youtube where some have done this.

I trimmed mine about a half inch last year. If you look at the paddles real close, there is a mold pattern that stops around a half inch from the tip. I cut along this line(and some weren't pretty) and had no issues for the 400 or so KM's since thr trimming. Will know more this season.

I trimmed mine about a 1/2 inch and haven't noticed any problems. Takes a bit of time but it's a one shot deal that is worth it in my opinion.

One thing that really helped me when I did it in the past was to make a cutting template. I used 2 peices of puckboard I had laying around and measued the .5" I wanted to cut off. Screwed the two peices together. The top peice sat on the top of the lug and the bottom edge was the cutting edge. Hope this makes sense.
