Well, I took the plunge. I've traded my '03 RX1 for a '10 Nytro RTX SE.
(Big thanks to Mike and the crew at Port Yamaha!)
Quite a difference in sleds, that's for sure! The Nytro is more like what I want and more suited to the trails around here, which can be rough.
It's going to take some getting used to, but so far I like it. One thing I notice rather dramatically is the change from engine braking on my RX to the "coast down" feel of the Nytro. With my RX, I didn't have to use the brakes that much. You let off the gas and it would slow down hard. The Nytro does not. I guess this is part of Yamaha's wanting to make these feel more like a 2-stroke? I'm also not sure if maybe part of what I feel is the change from a studded track to the Ripsaw that comes standard on the RTX?
The RTX seems to pull harder down low. I LOVE the feel of getting up on the bars and lifting the front, and being able to hammer it over the "rough". I probably need to dial in the suspension to suit my size and style, but I'm going to take that slow and just get used to the change in sleds first.
EFI is cool. No choke, just fire it up!
I'm kinda bummed that one of the grips does not heat up, but I'll figure it out or have Mike fix it under warranty. The one that does work sure gets hot, but maybe that's because only one is heating? I hear the grips on these are not that great? But I also hear they are better on the '10? Tonight it's in the single digits (F) and the working side kept me plenty warm.
Anyway, I should be able to get some decent seat (or maybe now I should say STAND) time. It's cold and the snow's not going anywhere for awhile!
Nice to have a "fresh" sled.

I have done the exact same thing. I love the new technology wit EFI. Although I missed the comfort of my RX1, it was time to move on.
