I have been attempting to align my clutches. I removed my engine last year to replace the heat exchanger at the front of the tunnel. I had to turn in the adjusters to get the motor back in, and I wasn't aware of the alignment until I did a little reading on here. I ordered the Ulmer tool and as anticipated the alignment was way off. I looked in the tech tips and searched and got some info on adjusting. I loosened the long bolt in the back and the shorter 2 in the front. Then I tried to draw the motor up to the PTO side as that is where I was off. I was able to get the sheives parallel but the center to center was still to close together. In order to get them parallel I had to take a shim from the back side of the secondary and move it to the outside. I am thinking this is where I messed it up. Am I correct that there is no adjustment on the rear long bolt, all adjustments are made on the 2 front bolts on either side of the battery? I spent like 3 hours today on this and it still isn't right. Can someone point me in the right direction

i think there are adjustable collars where the long bolt passes through. to adjust them you need a very wide flat screwdriver or a flat chisel. turning them in or out aligns motor. work on center to center and getting paralell, offset can be done with the clutch washers.

Good info here. You might want to try a little searching on the site. I saw pictures of the adjustments posted.

I did look at the tech articles, and searched clutch alignment in the RX section. I looked thru alot of posts and didn't see much in the form of pics. In the tech pages one of the articles stated to run the adjusters so the motor is all the way to the left of the machine, so if I adjusted the front only, then I missed half the process. I will see if I can find the rear adjusters and try again.
Like I said I did get it parallel but the center to center was to close together. If it was aligned before with the washers in different positions, then I probably did something wrong. Thanks for the pointer, I will see what happens tomorrow AM when I go back at it.

The rear one is on the nut side of the long bolt, I had mine turned accidentally and am now looking at checking the alignment.

There is a tolerance. Mine is about 1 mm too close right now. I made up for it with the belt height. Someday I may even go after correcting this. The tolerance is + 1.5 mm.

There are 3 collars that can be adjusted. This is for center to center. Then as stated adjust the offset with shims.
Check this post for the info from the service manual.

Well after removing the brake and attempting to move the adjuster on the rear long bolt, it was pretty tight and could only move it about 10 deg's of a turn. My little adaptor I made with a socket kind of rounded the adjuster, so I had to utilize the front 2 adjusters. With the one closest to the PTO adjusted all the way out and the one on the brake side all the way in I finally got my center to center and both sheives parallel. Guess if I ever take out the motor again I will get a new adjuster for the rear, but iam happy I got it all lined up again. I hope this helps me get some of my power back. Got the coils cleaned, carbs cleaned, new belt and a new track and will get to try everything out this Friday! Can't wait to get back on the trails. Going to go near Green Bay and head north from Oconto County.

If you were loosing power, typically the carbs are the first thing to go after. A center to center that is too short actually has quite a bit of tolerance (i.e. 3 mm.) It would probably have to be out quite a bit further before you see a significant change in power. Actually, your first indication of a short CTC would be extra RPM that goes along with the belt slippage. But, it never hurts to have these adjustments spot on.
On that adjuster, most of the guys are just using a slotted screwdriver to turn them. But maybe you ran into a sticky one. Glad to see that you got it.
